Lots of factors, yes. But for some fans the whole Kapumpernickel affair was the final straw.
Fantasy football (especially daily fantasy) has more to do with it than a peaceful protest.
Cord cutting has reduced TV viewership which also creates fewer fans. But, there is also fewer marketable stars and the most popular franchises are down.
KC and Jacksonville being good is bad for the league. Dallas and Green Bay being mediocre doesn’t help either. The league thrived when Peyton Manning and Bret Favre were torching defenses. Goff and Mahomes don’t have the same cache.
The NFL policy is for players to stand or stay inside should please those that don’t agree with the protests, and should displease those that support the protest. I don’t think that made much of a difference in comparison with the waning interest caused by on-the-field factors and cord cutting though.
