Can't agree with that. LaTech is a better team than Arkansas, but they are more talented, they just don't have a QB to run that system. Really stunning that Morris just keeps trying to ram that square peg into a round hole.

Before the game some fan on Hogville did a comparison of our rosters based on recruit rankings. They had 30+ 4 star recruits.

No doubt you are a better team, but they have talent just stacked up there.

Please share who these pundits are I would love to place bets with them. Their lines would be 4-7 points easier than the lines available online or in the Mississippi casinos, since the industry standard for college football is 2-3 points for home field advantage.

Our D will win this game, or not. If UNT had a pathetic defense I would hold out the possibility of out-scoring them in a shootout. But, they don't have a pathetic defense. We know the limitations of our offense. It's basically stuck in the low 20's with 23 being the ceiling of its potential. We have seen it for the past 17 games, with Smith at QB.

In this game, our D can't just get off the field forcing punts. Although, of course, that will be absolutely necessary too. We need turnovers setting up our O on a short field, and probably a defensive TD as well. So far our D has been disappointing. Again, maybe that's because I had such high hopes coming into the season. We've only played 3 games, so there is time for this D to get it together and start performing. This Saturday would be a very good time for that.
LA Tech's offense can't afford a bunch of "3 and outs" against UNT. The Tech offense needs some sustained drives just to keep Mason Fine and the UNT offense off the field, in order to give Tech a chance. And scoring from the Red Zone will be CRUCIAL for J'Mar and our offense. No more excuses this week.

I agree with you. I'm fond of saying "College football is all about the QB". Well, Arkansas' current problems highlight just how important it is to have a good QB in college football.

Arkansas will be fine. It takes a while to install the Morris system compared to the Big X ball they've been trying to play for the last few years.

CM is a great recruiter, but I've always doubted him as a coach. For example, how did he not run this team through all those practices and realize they have no one who can run his system? He should have modded his offense to get more success now. He can implement more and more of it as he gets his kind of recruits in.

I don't know that he knows how to adjust it. There are always bumps with a wholesale philosophy change. I don't know, is Bobby Petrino the lone exception?

    UNT 46, SMU 23
    UNT 58, Incarnate Word 16
    UNT 44, @ Arkansas 17
    UNT 47, @ Liberty 7

UNT has a very strong passing game. The Mean Green have a 5'11, 185 lb Junior QB (Mason Fine) that is tearing it up. YTD, Mason Fine is 105 of 162 (64.8%) pass attempts for 1,328 yds and 10 TD's, against only 1 INT. He's averaging 346 yds per game in passing yds. However, remember that Fine only payed partial games against SMU and IW, due to the lopsided outcomes. Had he played full games, his stats would likely be even more padded.

Without this kid (Fine), UNT would be a very different ball club. He's a gamer. A scrapper. In basketball, they call a guy like this a "gym rat". He's everywhere on UNT's offense, and he's their heart and soul. And yes, Fine will tuck the ball and run it. And he won't finish his runs with an "electric slide" like J'Mar. Fine is probably the best QB LA Tech will face the rest of the year, Miss St included.

Fine does a great job of spreading his passes around, particularly to 4 quality receivers. These 4 talented receivers include Rico Bussey (24 catches for 303 yds), Jalen Guyton (18 catches for 282 yds), Jaelon Darden (17 catches for 243 yds) and Kelvin Smith (14 catches for 148 yds).

UNT's rush game is less intimidating, averaging only 165 yds per game. Considering the level of competition they've played so far, that's not very much.

UNT is a very dangerous team. So the Bulldogs need to show up early and often this Saturday in Denton.

we are not playing Arkansas so most of this thread , like me, thinking somehow Arkansas was big win . well Arkansas lost last 3 games and gave up about 112 points -- . I am still thinking Vegas is setting trap for betters --7 points (3 of it for home field) is pretty temping to gamblers -- Vegas seems to like Tech covering ....

OK, so they are a team that's stacked with talent that is going to win 2, maybe three games this year. One of those wins is a team I've never even heard of.

    Re: 9/29: @UNT Game

North Texas has a realistic shot at an undefeated season. Us and FAU are the main hurdles so they will give us everything they have. We also know that any hopes of a conference championship are basically gone if we lose Saturday so we will be giving this one everything we have. If we are going to have any chance, our D-line has to get pressure on Fine. They are favored for a reason, they are the favorites to win the west for a reason, and the reason is Mason Fine. He's the best quarterback we will face this year. If we find a way to make him play more like an average joe, the other matchups become much more manageable.

We knew Fine as good last year. The big surprise has been the defense. I'm curious to find out Saturday if the defense is as good as they look or if it's just a mirage.
