Isn’t that counterintuitive? Wouldn’t future employers appreciate a shrewd negotiator and hope he would do the same if they hired him?

Apparently he thinks so, but his possible future employers aren't thinking that. They are laughing all the way to the bank. I should have said "what he thinks could be possible future employers."
