    Re: Offense?

I was just confused at the difference between the team I saw defeat North Texas and the team that played UAB. It was like 2 completely different teams. I understood getting up for UNT this year, but we seem to just overlook UAB. We certainly had the talent to do something more on offense. Props to UAB for their defense and the refs for the HORRIBLE no-calls, but our offense is much better than what we showed Saturday night. Holtz has got to learn to go for the juggler from the opening play until the very end. I don't put this on anyone other than the coach.

We were able to sustain drives against UNT. He's going to have accuracy issues at times, that's a given. But against UNT, he threw several one-on-one high risk/high reward throws that resulted in penalties against the defense. We stretched them out some. We also need to throw some deep out timing passes, along with working the middle curls. It's not just J'Mar who needs some rhythm to get it going, it's also our receivers. Aside from Veal, they don't seem to do as well when they only see a ball every 10 snaps or more. Another question--can our rb's not catch at all? Why do we never throw to them?

And one of them used to be a WR.

    J'Mar was 51% at UNT...for the record.

Just imagine telling your boss that you'd do just enough to produce passable work and then still fail.

Pretty sure that during a preseason interview or press conference, Holtz specifically said his dream was to win a game 2-0. Shouldn't be a surprise that he would admit he was coaching toward a 10-7 outcome this past weekend. Several of us have complained for years that when we build a decent lead, or even a small one, his playcalling and overall coaching completely changes, usually leading to a narrow win or soul-crushing loss.

I remember getting ticked at Bicknell always saying he wanted to "hang around until the 4th quarter and see what happens," but at least Bicknell was referring to our play against superior teams. Holtz appears to coach with the same philosophy; unfortunately, it's usually against teams we should be putting away by halftime.

Can you imagine if Holtz had to coach against the schedule Bicknell coached against. We could have gone winless during one of those seasons.

I think Bicknell would have a better record than Holtz has had against this competition.

Holtz was demoted from OC at SC by his own father. Lou tried to set Skip up as his successor there but they were too smart to fall for that.

In this era of offensive football you have to start aggressive and stay aggressive, on offense and defense. Otherwise, you will lose a lot of games, some close, some not so much. Look at LSU, as good as their defense has been over the years, they have lost games due to being too conservative, and not having good QB’s.

Skip plays just the opposite of what I think you need.

I don’t get the thing about the OL ‘not being prepared’ or any part of our team not being prepared. It’s not like our players haven’t played football before. I guess most of our players have played about 10 years. Surely they’ve seen enough, experienced enough that we can make a change mid game, mid quarter, hell mid series without blowing everybody’s mind. Of course the all important factor are the coaches figuring out what to try next.

Now we know why Holtz showed more emotion after the garbage time td against Southern than he has shown all season. It went against his make up.

I knew why well before he made the 10-7 statement. Holtz is the George B McClellan of NCAA coaches. That's just who he is, and it is never going to change. Ever.
