Our receivers seem to respond to playcalling. That was the biggest difference imo. Jmar was able to get it going early because he was enabled to.

Have you considered those Dogs?
So week 1 of the "Coach, try something different" is over. Did he try or do anything different?
Our QB lined up as a WR outside on a play.
We actually returned a punt or two.
We threw the ball deep with success and only had one segment where we ran the same running play 6 times in a row (but we were leading by multiple TDs instead of trailing by multiple TDs).
We ran a quicker tempo offense that didn't require 3 minutes to signal in the play.
We didn't attempt 5 FGs.
Also, when you are winning 24-3 with less than two minutes to go in the game...why are our starters still playing?
Couldn’t you have subbed J’Mar at this time?
It’s been fun at times, but not always:
Jeff Driskel 2015
Colby Cameron 2011, 2012
Cody Sokol 2014
Ryan Higgins 2013, 2016
Ross Jenkins 2010
Nick Isham 2011
Scotty Young 2013
J’Mar Smith 2016, 2017, 2018
Before the season started my general perception of the team learned from some who actually attended some practices and of course the expert anaylsis from the ultimate experts who post daily on this message board () was this:
Defense: The defense led by Ferguson and Robertson could be special. They could be dominate and actually win some games for us. Concerns were about receiver coverage (when is that not a concern at the college level?) and of course coaching with Baker, but overall this was going to be a better than average Tech defense and a great defense in CUSA.
Offense: We have talent!! We have depth in receivers. We have some depth and good talent at running back but not sure where everyone will be on the depth chart. The offensive line, a lot of people thought this will be a very good OL but others were not sure which is also not unusual at predicting the performance at college level. The OL has to stay healthy which is always a concern. The main concern was will J'mar finally become the QB that can lead this offense with both his talent and develop the leadership skills needed to inspire and run the offense at a consistent high level? Will we see significant improvement from him and if not, who is the QB who will replace him and at what point in the season will that be done if necessary?
Special Teams: Who the heck knows anything ? Punting is a big question mark and we can't help but improve in return and return coverage. We should improve because it appears we may actually have that "10th Assistant Coach" who will take control and bring the proper attention and coaching that is needed.
Coaching: Will HCSH open the game up and truly be uptempo and abandon the sometimes conservative and downright puzzling game management style and confounding play calling? Will he let his coaches coach and make the painful but necessary changes in the starting lineup during the season?
We are now halfway through the season and we are 4-2. What is the perception now? (And $1.98 for the first person who uses the cliches "Perceptions and opinions are like *******, everyone has one")
Perceptions and opinions are like "belly buttons" everyone has one. (had to keep it clean)
Please donate my $1.98 to Louisiana Tech in whatever capacity you see fit. Thanks.
Again...we are where I thought we would be, 4-2. Only, flip the UNT and UAB results. Now, I think we will go 3-3 the rest of the way, winning at home, losing on the road.
Single biggest problem is QB. A change at QB would give this team a boost. Maybe, just maybe enough to sneak in a 4-2 finish.
