    Week 9

    CUSA

It's mostly "avoiding an upset week" for the contenders. Except for us and FAU on Friday...this is a playoff game. Winner stays alive, loser is eliminated from contention for a division title, and thus the CUSA championship.

TECH at FAU (HUGE GAME!) this Friday

    USM at Charlotte
    MTSU at ODU
    Rice at UNT
    UAB at UTEP
    FIU at WKU

Other games...if you have an interest in college football, in general, like I do.

#25 Appy State at Ga. Southern (first trip into the Top 25 for Appy State, can they avoid an upset, and Ga. Southern is 6-1, 3-0 itself!)

#21 USF at Houston (HUGE game in the AAC)

#9 UGA at #7 UF (SEC East title on the line)

#12 Kentucky at Mizzou (Cats need to keep pace in the SEC East)

#16 aTm at Moo State (Tech opponent)

#6 Texas at Okie State (The Horns are carrying the playoffs banner for the Big 12...long shot)

#2 Clemson at Fla State (have to avoid the upset)

Holtz makes it sound like we don't have a chance at FAU.

He knows better than most, what a lousy coach he is. So, I don't doubt it'll be an uphill battle. We'll get out-coached for sure, but the Dawgs have been in that situation before, and prevailed.

Just be thankful they are struggling at QB with Driskel quiting a year early last year.

    Troy 38 South Bama 17

….and it wasn't that close. Troy has a QB named Smith...that Smith can actually throw a pass. Has a beautiful touch on the long ball. Actually, South Bama has gotten better, and their QB Orth, threw some pretty passes too. Good thing we played 'em when we did, not so sure we would escape with a "W" now.

Didn't have to be bored to enjoy it. It was a good game, lots of big plays, some pretty passes and some great catches by WRs. It was a joy to watch some good pitching and catching. Nothing spectacular by either QB....just better than what we have to endure.

....Losing OC Kendall Briles to Houston hurt them too. Briles is a gunslinger in a knife welding sport. He'll make someone a very good Head Coach some day.

Here''s the impact of Kendall Briles has had on Houston this season:

    Houston last season (before briles):
70th ranked offense in the nation last season, that graduated 100% of its skill players, projected WAY worse for the 2018 season

Houston this season (with briles): despite playing a complete inexperienced offense who was projected horrible, the offense is currently the #2 offense in the NATION..

He’s also the son of an (in)famous coach.

Now that would be a legacy hire we could all get behind, no matter how short his tenure would be. Well he would have to stay longer than one season.

The NCAA has finally opened up its investigation at Baylor. I suspect Kendall Briles is going to get caught up in it.

Our game was the only one featuring two contenders. It was a playoff, elimination game, and now FAU is toast. They will not repeat as CUSA champs.

The rest of the schedule is a contender vs. a spoiler. On the Upsets part of Gameday, UTEP was picked, with the +16 pts, to cover and "upset" UAB. Not win the game out-right, but cover. I can believe that. Even given that UAB and UTEP are polar opposites, 16 is a lot of points to spot a home team. And, the intangibles are...is UAB getting tired? Mentally tired, I mean. UAB could suffer a lethargic effort today, and who knows? If UAB brings their "A" game then not even 16 pts will be enough.

USM, MTSU, UNT, and FIU should all hold serve today. No changes in the standings where it matters.

But, if I had to choose one upset...I'll say Charlotte over USM.
