Both of those guys fit perfectly there. IMO they did nothing at their former jobs to warrant landing that job, but it worked out. Holtz the same way. He was run off from SF, but has done nicely since coming here. He would be the perfect coach if he壇 hire an OC and let them run the offense.
A big reason each was hired at LSU was both guys had much success at a little sister school. Miles at Oklahoma State had to play powerhouse Oklahoma. He won in two of his four years. Beating # 4 Oklahoma in 2001 and #3 Oklahoma in 2002.

Saban while at Michigan State had to play big brother Michigan every season. He beat #7 Michigan in 1995 and #3 Michigan in 1999. Two wins in five seasons. During his tenure Sparty also beat #1 Ohio State.

LSU thought that if these coaches could be at the number two school in a state and win; they would be awesome at a flagship school. That thought was correct as both won national championships at LSU.

The difference between them and Holtz other than number of championships, both conference and national, is Michigan State and Oklahoma State hated to see their coaches go. USF fired your boy Skippy. Skippy is the coach who did nothing in his previous job to warrant landing another job. Miles and Saban were very sought after coaches who anyone with any knowledge of football could see. The success each coach experienced is a direct result of their resume.

    Saban/Miles 7 national championships, 9 conference championships
    Holtz 0 championships

    Past success = future success
Past failure = well you get the picture

Oh poor, poor Sicem, you missed the point yet again. You couldn't understand why LSU hired Saban or Miles. I explained to you what LSU saw in both coaches, there were lots of indicators where in the right situation they would be very successful. And both were wildly successful at LSU. Holtz, on the other hand, was at a place where everyone before and after him are/were very successful and he totally shit the bed. There was nothing to indicate that he would come to Tech and win championships and he hasn't.

Now are those type of scenarios going to play out everytime? Even you should know that will not be the case. Past success or failure is a good indicator of future results, but it is not absolute. The puzzling thought is it is clear why LSU took a chance on Saban and Miles, but what in the world was Tech tinking hiring Holtz? I guess since CUSA keeps getting worse every season maybe Holtz will pick up a championship at some point.

I figured Holtz would do well here based on his days at ECU. They were terrible before he got there and returned to terrible after he left. He won 2 CUSA championships with them (in the better CUSA) and beat several Top 25 teams. I am not surprised at all that he has taken Tech to 2 more CUSA championship games.

Just in case you've forgotten, it was about saving money. We paid Holtz half of what we were paying Dykes and we were able to shift the extra $500K or so over to pay Mike White. He was a questionable hire, but I believe we actually got more than expected out of him.

Think about the C-USA Championship game and what a cluster is would be for our AD to host it. IMO, the G5 conference championships are a waste of resources anyway. Saying that, I'd like to win one, but our peak with Holtz is a bowl game and 8 wins. Now only if we could play Northeast...

If winning no conference championships in a terrible "FCS-level conference" is doing well then Skip should be national coach of the year.

He has won 2 out of the 4 championship games he's been to in CUSA. No national coach of year awards though.

I didn稚 miss the point podnuh, I pointed out to you that past success or failure in coaching, just like the market, is not indicative of future results. And if you think I知 a Holtz apologist, you池e either blind or willfully ignorant. Over and over and over I致e been critical of him not being able to win a championship in this league with the talent he has available.

Those championships from a decade ago at another school have not translated to any championships here. What we get is more like what USF got, no championships.

Many of our fans are okay with that. Maybe we have reached our ceiling, as many believe. I am an optimist I think we can do better.

You were saying there was no indication that Holtz would win a championship here. I was reminding you of his winning CUSA twice before he got here. That's all.

Yep, we hired him because he was still receiving payments from South Florida and allowed us to try and hold on to White with the extra money. How’d that work out

Colby Cameron gets mention on ESPN Sports Center.

Holds NCAA record of throwing 27 TDs before he threw his first INT. Tau of Bama is sitting at 25. Hope LSU gets one today to preserve Colby's record.

I was shocked when LSU hired "Miles from Nowhere." Wasn't impressed with him at Okie State, actually thought he was a boob. They had us down 36-18 and kept throwing the ball, without success, stopping the clock and given a "puncher" a "puncher's chance." Finally McCown got our offense cranked up, three long drives for our 39-36 win. We laughed about it for a week on our board, with a thank you to Coach Miles.

    Miles under-achieved at LSU too.

If he breaks it they値l probably announce it in-game on the broadcast. Maybe mention Colby and Tech in the process. He will likely pass it.
