Rice Attendance?

This is something I have been thinking about, and its a question I wanted to bring up on BBB because we are the hardest of the hardcore Tech fans and alums.

Knowing what we know now about Holtz, and what we think his mindset is (i.e. stubbornness) here is my question.

As bad as attendance and moral seems now, how bad will it be next year if we roll into the season with the rockstar at QB?

How many more defections will we suffer from the current group of players, and what will it do to recruiting? Hopefully not much to recruiting since 2019 recruits may be red-shirted and not waste a year with Smith at QB. They will know when there 4-year clock starts ticking in 2020 he'll be gone.

I see season tix sales dropping. I would think so. I also see contributions to the AD, to LTAC, dropping. There won't be a lot of enthusiasm going into next year. BUT!!! there was a similar air of concern heading into 2016 when Higgins was announced as starting QB, and fans flocked in when Higgins proved to be "pretty darn good!"

As for Attendance, it'll be 10k.

Holtz football is boring and Tech Athletic Dept is not promoting the game. Doing the easy things like promoting through social media, we fail at. There is nothing out there about the Rice game Monday morning by latechsports. No ad, no video, nothing.

Met a young man this weekend who attends North Texas. He is a marketing major and his department takes an active role in coming up with and implementing game day promotions, videos, social media blasts, signage in town and on campus, and anything else they can think of to get free labor out of kids doing this for class credit. Their grade partially depends on the success of their efforts. Hhmmm, I think we have a marketing field in our business school.........

If you think about it for a minute, you will see what a mistake that would be.

With the exception, if you are talking about 2019 we know Smith won't even be close to "pretty darn good" if you mean 2020 I would hope we might see people come back, but we wont even know what we got until 2020 if Skippy has his way.

From a win - loss perspective we've had a respectable season. But as anyone who has come to our home games has seen, it wouldn't have taken much for our record to be pretty bad. And for anyone who is halfway familiar with football, you have to wonder about our offense. I expect attendance will be really down, as so many have predicted.

So wouldn't it be ironic if we get another QB and light up Rice with an exciting blow out win before the smallest crowd of the year.

It would be absolutely wonderful, and would probably lead us to have our largest home crowd of the year against WKU in Week 13. The fans are out there. They just need some hope.

The archaic tailgating policies hurt.

The ramping up season ticket prices with a mandated LTAC donation hurt.

The continued dumping on your season ticket holders by selling those same LTAC level seats for single games at cheaper prices hurt.

The kicking students out of the park hurt.

The focus on creating a concert at the expense of parking hurt.

There is tons you can do to fix this. I just don't see it coming.

The raising of ticket prices, etc. is it their attempt to try to be like the a P5 school if we charge P5 prices? They have shot themselves in the foot in every other aspect of the game day experience (i.e. hype video, weekly promitions of the game, over-regulating tailgating, and putting a boring product on the field, that no one wants to come to the game anymore. Why should they? Yes there are true blue people who are there all the time, but for the casual fan who did not graduate from Tech, why should they come?

LSU and UNT marketing have found a way to capture and make fans out of people who never graduated from the university. What is Tech doing to make fans out of non-students?
