    Todd Fitch

For those of you that don't know, Todd Fitch is LA Tech's Offensive Coordinator (OC). If we are going to talk about LA Tech's anemic offensive performances in 2018 (ranked #89 in total offense), then we must include the OC responsible for the poor play calling and offensive degradation. That person is Fitch.

Todd Fitch was hired by Skip Holtz on Feb 5, 2016, to be LA Tech's OC. Prior to joining the LA Tech, Fitch spent three years at Boston College (BC). He was BC's wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator (2013-14) and later served as BC's OC and quarterbacks coach in 2015. According to the official NCAA stats (see link below), Boston College --with Fitch as OC-- finished 2015 ranked #125 in total offense out of 127 total FBS schools. (LA Tech was ranked #21) He was so bad as OC, BC head coach Steve Addazio announced in mid January 2016 that he had hired Scott Loeffler as his new OC, effectively demoting Fitch back to receivers coach. Three weeks later, Fitch headed to LA Tech as OC for Holtz.

    It's all right here:

    https://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fbs/2016/team/21

    https://collegefootballtalk.nbcsport...as-latechs-oc/

    https://www.bcinterruption.com/bosto...-todd-fitch-to

Boston College had the league's worst offense in 2015, averaging 17 points a game, and a paltry 275 yards per game. At the end of the season, Steve Addazio decided to move on from offensive coordinator Todd Fitch, hiring Scot Loeffler the former Virginia Tech offensive coordinator. Fitch was removed from the OC role and re-assigned back to wide receiver coach. -- Quote from article in above link
There it is folks. LA Tech is getting exactly what we hired: a terrible OC who averaged 17 points and 275 yds per game at Boston College. Why did Holtz think Fitch was going to do any better at LA Tech?

Prior to joining Boston College, Fitch served as Holtz's OC at both the University of South Florida (2010-12) and East Carolina (2007-09). We know how things worked out for Holtz at USF.....he was fired on Dec 2, 2012. Here's a story on Holtz's dismissal:

    http://www.espn.com/college-football...holtz-thd-year

At South Florida, the Holtz and Fitch offense ranked #89 in total offense (sound familiar?), out of 120 FBS schools for the 2012 season. (FYI, LA Tech was ranked #1 in 2012.)

    http://www.cfbstats.com/2012/leader/...10/sort01.html

There it is AGAIN, folks. I ask again, why did Holtz hire Fitch? Why did Holtz think Fitch was going to do any better at LA Tech, than he did at USF or Boston College?

Even during Holtz's and Fitch's final year (2009 season) at East Carolina --a CUSA championship team for Holtz-- the ECU offense under Todd Fitch as OC finished the 2009 season ranked #66 out of 120 FBS schools. Here's the link:

    http://www.cfbstats.com/2009/leader/...10/sort01.html

Again, THERE IT IS, FOLKS! LA Tech is getting exactly what we should expect offensively, based upon Todd Fitch's checkered past results at ECU, South Florida and Boston College. What's truly stunning is the fact that Skip Holtz would continue to hire a man like Fitch, knowing his track record as an OC is so poor.

After last nights performance, Louisiana Tech's is now ranked #89 nationally in total offense. Does that ranking sound familiar, Tech fans? (see South Florida ranking) Here's the link for confirmation:

    http://www.cfbstats.com/2018/leader/...10/sort01.html

It's time for Fitch to move on. The fact is, the man should have never been hired in the first place. And the fact that Holtz hired him for such a important job makes me question the judgement of Skip Holtz. I'm sure Holtz hired Fitch because they are friends, and that's the way this "coaching" business works. And now LA Tech is paying an enormous price for Holtz's friendships.

These are just the FACTS, folks. I've tried to keep emotion out of it, and simply evaluate historical results. But in summary, I see no reason to think we are going to get better results than what Fitch has produced in the past.

Dude, Holtz calls the plays. That’s why he hired Fitch, to have a yes man.

You’re correct, Fitch should never have been hired. That was all Holtz trying to help out a buddy.

So, did someone else call the plays for Fitch at Boston College? I think not, or they wouldn't have replaced him. Did Holtz call the plays for Fitch at ECU? Or USF?

Don't let Fitch off the hook this easy. There's a reason Fitch was run out of Boston just ahead of the pitchforks and torches in the streets.

No one is letting him off the hook. Maybe that who Holtz is speaking to on the headset, BUT we all KNOW Skip Holtz is the play caller. Even if Fitch did call the plays, in which he doesn't, it all points back to the Skipper. He is content with winning 6 games and going to a bowl. He has major job security so he isn't going anywhere. Its unfortunate for the fans and players, but its the truth. The most qualified person to call plays is Tim Rattay. He has done it at both levels. Skip is a micromanager, he can't let go of it. Even though we have someone on staff better than him or anyone else, he will never relinquish that duty.

Great question. Another great question, did we really think Holtz would win championships here? No, we apparently hired Holtz because he came cheap. I am sure Fitch comes cheap as well.

Still mind blowing that Holtz had his excuse speech canned at halftime. He blamed the defense at halftime, then REALLY raked them over the coals in the post game. I've sure we'll hear it again at the presser on the coaches show, on Fletcher, and Dietrich.

Yes, the defense played bad, but he knows he can't keep protecting his rock star.

    Re: Todd Fitch

The way Holtz was talking about the defense last night it will not be Fitch who is looking for a job after the season it will be Defense Coordinator Blake Baker Skip will not fire or release Baker, he will just announce or quietly mention that Baker has moved on to another position at some team. He will praise Baker and lament the fact that he left. Then within a week or so he will announce the new DC hire. Skip does not believe in embarrassing people in public. He will actually help Baker find a job. - Skip is a good guy in that way because he takes care of his people and old friends and while that might be to the detriment of our program he will still do that. I believe Holtz was traumatized by his firing at USF. He has never been in that situation, his Dad was never “fired” from any program, he just left or retired.

Coaches like Holtz and Fitch are on autopilot trying to coast right into retirement. They've both accomplished all they'll ever accomplish in coaching and from here on out, it's all about six wins and a bowl appearance to keep the hounds at bay. What we need is an AD that can tell Skip to fire Fitch and get a young, up and coming offensive OC that has had some SUCCESS at this level, or at least the FCS level. Then he's got to insist that Holtz let the OC run the offense next year.

He didn’t say any about Baker because he never will say anything about a coach in that situation- as he shouldn’t. He did express how unhappy he was with the defense. I can see how he might be looking for some future action to cover the pitiful production on offense.
