The Bengals named Jeff Driskel the winner of their 2018 Ed Block Courage award. Driskel injured his arm late in the 2017 season, and the Bengals said the injury threatened to derail his career. "Jeff suffered a career threatening left arm fracture in December during a practice, and his injury required immediate reconstructive surgery and extensive rehabilitation," Bengals head athletic trainer Paul Sparling said in a news release. "Due to the added complication of a residual nerve damage, his return to play was not a certainty... "During his recovery, Jeff approached his rehabilitation with a positive attitude and exemplary work ethic, all the while never losing focus on his primary goal to return to the field. He impressed his surgeon and his therapist as he worked to get back, and he was able to start training camp fully cleared for all activity. Jeff set an example for others to keep your head up and focus on the positive in all you do, no matter what you encounter in life."
