No, per conference regulations all 7 win teams get placed prior to 6 win teams.
The Hawaii Bowl is much better than this team deserves, but it's the right spot considering fan frustration right now. Our attendance would've been embarrassingly low at any regional bowl this year. Hawaii will be the trip of a lifetime for most of our players. We should be thankful we aren't getting shipped off to New Mexico. And I think our defense actually matches up really well with Hawaii, much like SMU and UNT.
Does Hawaii still run the Run and Shoot offense? The June Jones offense scheme we saw back in the WAC days..
Shreveport radio folks were saying Duke or Miami from the ACC.
They were hoping for a UCF loss and a Miami vs UCF I-Bowl matchup.
This team deserves a game that fans can travel to. Playing at Hawaii is an unprecedented 8 ROAD GAMES of 13 total. This is completely unacceptable!
A guarantee of placement does not guarantee order of placement. To think otherwise shows a lack of understanding of how bowl politics work.
Tech has been on the better side of bowl politics for the last four years and deservedly so. Every C-USA team has to take a turn in either Hawai'i or in the Bahamas eventually. This is the right year for Tech to take one of those spots.
I am all for Hawaii.... I do not want to be embarrassed about our crowd in N.O., Dallas, or another regional Bowl. Who knows? We may pull out a win with our defense with none of our fans booing our own team. That would be horrible for recruiting and our reputation, if this season hasn't already hurt us enough.
Plus, not having to play a belt team in a down year is the best news!
That is the perfect place to go. We need to be way away. Our kids will enjoy the vacation, and no one gets embarrassed at the crowd.
And hopefully, the game will be one of those late night events, like after 9:00 CST, 10:00 eastern, and not too many people will see us get killed by the Rainbow Warriors. And being a nothing bowl, one of 40, no one will remember it either. This is all about damage control at this point.
If we do play Hawaii, the positives are Hawaii Haiku thread and pine cone comments.
Best possible scenario all things considered...
One of the few wise moves made by this administration in the past 18 months
Players deserve this once in a lifetime opportunity (for most of them)...
And it will probably end the talk of consecutive bowl wins -
Plus we are obligated to go to a CUSA tie in bowl - best to get Hawaii out of the way in a sour season like this, than in a season where our fans are more willing to travel and follow
