Is our team practicing? Bowls are important because of the extra practice we get.

Only valuable if a new QB. Otherwise, save your knees and backs fellas. Get in a good lift and some drills in shirts and lids and call it good. No practice needed for dive, counter, incomplete, and punt.

Dang! Cha-ching!!! y'all are ringing the cynicism bell....loudly!

Well...is no one gonna defend Coach Holtz, the staff....the Dawgs? The Sunshine Pumpers have fled for the hills, unable to apologize any longer. But, still, I don't like all of the banter being so one-sided, and so negative. So! Dawg80 puts on the shining white armor and charges to the rescue...

Now, I understand the last two games, especially that WKU loss, were very disappointing. But, this is a bowl game! Skip Holtz is a totally different coach for bowls. I believe the defense will step up, like in Frisco, and J'Mar Smith will enjoy a good game. Dawgs will get it done, baby!

Just watch them miss the layups and FTs. Then slowly bitch about how bad they are.
I'm not blaming Rattay. He is probably underutilized, I would put him in the press box and let him identify coverages for J'Mar (an area he obviously struggles). The game has changed since Rattay played at Tech, he was a great pocket passer, not very effective as a runner. How many read options did Rattay run at Tech? Holtz could definitely utilize his talents and should where applicable. Mobile QB's are the current trend in the college game.

I know you are trying to drum up some smack talk, and that's fine. We have mentioned we liked the old WAC, including Hawaii...well we liked to dislike you! And you are defending the "Hawaii Bowl" too, as a bowl game. Well, nice destination, like the Bahamas Bowl, but the difference is there is no University of the Bahamas football team playing on its homefield in that true "bowl" game.

Finally, this mostly has NOTHING to do with UH nor the "Hawaii Bowl." Our issues are internal. He have an absolutely CRAPPY QB and a coach who insists on keeping him as the starter. We "Techies" would be expressing dissatisfaction with the state of affairs no matter what bowl, or what opponent we were facing this go-around.

You are not that important, so don't take this personally.
Maybe we just lost our favorite dog to kick year in and year out. Maybe your level of success is due to your choice of conference. North Texas will lose to Utah State by two touchdowns. Utah State is not the best in our conference. Of course, neither are we as the Aggies so convincingly proved recently at our house.

The reason we have done so badly is that we also invested in a designer head coach: Norm Chow. Believe it or not, our fan base was ranting about the mediocrity of coach McMackin for losing to the likes of Notre Dame and Wisconsin. We were fortunate to repatriate Rolovich but were not so lucky with Dave Aranda (the defensive coordinator for LSU). Sometimes, you don't how good you had it until you've lost it.

Anyway, the smack talk on this board seems to have evaporated. Comments like jerk, stupid and unimportant are pretty...weak.

What exactly is it that disgusts you about the Hawaii Bowl and meeting up with an old adversary? Is it that we have most often as not gotten the best of you? Are you saying Rattay should be able to coach JMar how to run a read option? Running that is an instinct thing, not a coached thing. Lot's of high school QBs run it well, but can't pass a lick. J"Mar can't make a read or a consistent pass.

Are you saying one of J'Mar's talents is running the ball? He can't run. Again, no instinct for when to take off. Based on his slides, he appears to be afraid of getting hit.

What are J'Mar's talents? I've identified what he does best. Do you know?

Hint: When Hotlz was asked why we didn't do what worked with J'Mar, he said he did not want to risk a turnover. He does not mind losing, but he hates to turn the ball over. Go figure.

Hawaii Bowl @ Honolulu, HawaiiLouisiana Tech +1 Hawaii
For the first time since 2003, this game will not be played on Christmas Eve. So you will have to find some other excuse to avoid your family. Fortnite or Red Dead Redemption II is probably the way to go. This marks Hawaii's eight appearance in their eponymous bowl game. In the previous seven games, the Warriors are 4-3 straight up and 3-4 ATS. The Warriors have been favorites in five of those games, winning three of them. Keep that in mind should you feel compelled to bet on the Warriors because you believe they enjoy some sort of extra homefield advantage in this game as it appears they do not. Hawaii and Louisiana Tech used to meet annually as members of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). The Warriors dominated in those days, winning seven of nine meetings as conference opponents. However, since the WAC's implosion and the subsequent diaspora of its members, these two programs have gone in different directions. Hawaii is just 29-60 since leaving the WAC following the 2011 season while Louisiana Tech is 45-33 since the WAC's dissolution in 2012. In fact, regardless of the bowl result, 2018 will mark Hawaii's first winning season since 2010! However, despite their eight regular season wins, you can make a decent case that Hawaii is not very good. The Warriors have beaten exactly one team that will finish the 2018 season with a winning record and four of their eight wins have come by a touchdown or less. Meanwhile, four of their five losses have come by at least 18 points. In conference play, they were decent on offense, ranking fifth in the twelve team Mountain West in yards per play, but on defense, they ranked just tenth in yards allowed per play. Louisiana Tech has a profile that is entirely different. The Bulldogs struggled moving the football consistently, ranking eleventh in the fourteen-team Conference USA in yards per play, but also fielding the fourth best defense in yards allowed per play. In addition, most of Louisiana Tech's losses are excusable. The Bulldogs lost on the road to SEC teams LSU and Mississippi State as well as conference champ UAB and Southern Miss (the Eagles missed out on a bowl but did finish with a winning record). Their only questionable loss came in the season finale to Western Kentucky. Louisiana Tech has been great as an underdog against fellow Group of Five teams under Skip Holtz, posting a 10-2 ATS mark since 2014 in those games. Couple that with Hawaii's inability to cover as a home favorite (0-6-1 ATS under Nick Rolovich) and you have all the makings of a slight upset in the Hawaii Bowl.

What's better than an evenly matched former nemesis in a bowl game? Yes, Hawaii owns its bowl, but Georgia also owns the Sugar Bowl and a bunch of other bowls are stacked as home favorites. This year, we've got great coaches and a lot of great players but they're mostly new this year. Nobody on our coaching staff or team sucks...they're just inexperienced. The question is...have they gained experience this year? Vegas can't tell.
