Scheduling non-DI opponents should NEVER be an issue for us. There are enough Division I schools within driving distance to assure that none of us would have to schedule a DII, DIII, or NAIA opponent. I think we should always schedule a couple of toughies every year....play on the road at Kansas, at Duke, or some other similar programs. Get a series, home/home with other quality DIs, like a Wichita State....great! But, when push comes to shove and we have gaps in our schedule, those should be filled with regional DIs, even the SWAC, which are DI at least. If Tech, and our regional peers, would get pro-active and start scheduling years ahead, we can set up a "round-robin" schedule which for us would mean OOCs vs. the Belch and the SLC, balanced home-away. The goal should be to completely, totally eliminate any one of us having to schedule a non-DI opponent.

The article states that AAC teams (Wichita State, Memphis, Houston, etc) only play 10 road games vs. "Non-Power 7" teams ( 10 out of 157) - it's not going to be easy.

DFM has the template we need to follow - but it won't be easy.

1st - we need to remove Tougaloo, Harding, Houston Baptist, PVA&M, MVSU from our Rolodex.

    another point of the article
When coaches control scheduling, their own interests -- for starters, keeping a job -- tend to come first.
