No those extra players dress, they just rarely see the field. A couple of them get to play special teams. It's not unusual for a coach to give a couple of 'ships to hard working scout team guys, but it is a little strange that we give 'ships to walk on guys as 2nd year players and those guys rarely see the field for the next 4 years.
Not sure what Pawdawg is talking about... but last year for comparison, we signed 14 early and then added 10 more at the late signing date for a total of 24.
Today we signed 11 and we have 4 more commits that are waiting to sign in February for whatever reason. I'm not saying we will sign 24 total again, but we certainly aren't done recruiting. Generally, we are hoping that some recruits that are deciding between us and some AAC, SEC, or B12 schools either choose us, or are a victim of a numbers game where the school they hoped would have a spot for them run out of room. We have also tended to pick up a transfer or two along the way as well (K Bailey Hale and WR Isaiah Graham [TCU]) were two last year.
I don't know of a single player on scholarship that was a walk on that is a not a regular contributor and a name people would recognize.
Looking at 247 Sports top 100, ULL kicked our ass in LA.
I thought our QB signee looked pretty good on film.
Out of the Rivals top 50, we've signed 2 out of our 3 commits so far, while ULoL has signed 0 out of 4 listed as commits. I wouldn't really call that an ass kicking.
Besides, we have 2 of the top 20 kickers in our class this year. If anyone is going to win an ass kicking contest, it should be us.
I have found that people knew the old cycle of the first Wednesday in February and got extremely excited for National Signing Day. I have also found that the new early signing period has not generated the same type of fervent excitement. It's just not the same. I was long a proponent of an early signing period, and I still like allowing those guys to get it out of the way, but it certainly has killed some of the excitement of the old National Signing Day.

Tech didn't issue a press release on our early signings?
