Trump just keeps doing what he ran on.

Gotta love when the socialists make it sound like Mattis stormed out of the building.

Did you read his resignation letter? It was an indictment of Trumpism.

He didn't agree with Trump doing what he ran on.

Did Mattis pack his cardboard box and leave? Is CNN and MSNBC reporting that Mattis will be involved in the transition?

CNN read the whole letter so it covered the transition. Weak strawman.

Did you not read where he said Trump’s policy goes against his 40 years of experience?

Understood. Yes, he did campaign on getting us out of the mid-east. And, I share the desire to get our troops our of harm's way. I'm not married to the idea of boots on the ground....forever. I don't think anyone is. The issue...to me, and apparently others too...is the timing (why now?) and doing so unilaterally. Couldn't Trump have at least TRIED to broker a deal with Putin...we'll leave if you do. Yeah, I know, can Putin be trusted? Doubtful...

And, leaving Afghanistan is another huge issue. Not so much for Afghan per se, but for Pakistan, and all its nukes.

Now Kurdish leaders are expressing shock and despair..."Why is the US abandoning us?" According to sources, Turkey has publicly announced a postponement of their planned offensive against the Kurds in NE Syria. This came from an agreement between Trump and Erdogan. The key word in the statement is "postponement." Hello! the Turks will wait until our troops are gone...then attack.

As for Mattis leaving, apparently in a huff, well that is disappointing...as much for him as for the situation. What kind of man gets his panties in a wad, cries, and then "takes his ball and goes home." Something a 10-year-old would do. Mattis had to know...and if he didn't, shame on him...about Trump's plans to withdraw US troops from Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan. As Secretary of Defense he should have been in constant, daily, consultation with President Trump, lobbying for us staying there, since that is so important to him. Shouldn't have come as a surprise, which apparently it did.

Obama's went against 70+ years of experience of our military and past Presidential policies.

Mattis had no choice. He assured our allies we had their back. Trump neutered him like he does to all his appointees.

Never ever did I agree with Obama!

But I don't agree with Trump on this one either. It's stupid leaving Israel and the Kurds out to dry. Hopefully he will reverse his
"mandate" on this one soon or have a secret reason and/or plan this is following to totally wipe them out.

Taken at face value... it's up to Mattis, who works FOR the POTUS, to implement his policies. To make lemonade out of lemons. Supreme authority lays with duly-elected civilians, in our political system. Surely you agree with that.

I disagree with Trump in this policy. I've made that very clear.

I disagree with Mattis, and anyone, especially in senior cabinet positions, having a knee-jerk reaction. How do you think those allies feel now? Bad enough they have to deal with the withdrawal announcement, but now their "champion" has quit on 'em too. The Kurds don't have the luxury of just quitting. This is very real for them. Mattis should have put his big boy pants on and continued to do all he could for our allies.

    Mattis neutered himself.

It is well past time for Trump to go. He is making America worse and less secure.

Re: US to withdraw from Syria?

There's nothing else we can do in Syria. The western Europe countries are the ones that are going to need help. They have millions of Muslim immigrants in their countries that are never going to leave. Terrorist will continue to wreak terror on the people. Muslims believe their god has told them to kill people that don't believe in him These muslims will eventually take over Europe and try to enforce Sharia law. We'll never be able to defeat muslim terrorists unless we fight them with their own rules, an eye for an eye.

We can have our military fight Isis in foreign theatres or we can just wait for Isis to bring the fight to US civilians.
