Two tigger football players, including RB Helaire, involved in a shooting fatality. That's what I just heard on ESPN.
The LSU Police, er, the Baton Rouge Police are calling it self-defense and no charges filed against the players. Not before the bowl game, anyway.
Apparently, the two players met some guy to sell him a video game box, (Xbox or something) and the guy pulled a gun and attempted to rob them. One of the players had his own gun and shot the guy 3 times, killing him.

Very quick investigation. Shooting took place around noon yesterday, the players were released before sundown last evening. Should be able to practice today. Surprised you are just hearing about this. It was the big story in Louisiana yesterday. Maybe you are out of town for the holidays. In any case, Merry Christmas.

If this is a guy exercising his constitutional right to defend himself, the only reason it should be discussed is as a cautionary tale about being alert.
Were they in the car when the weapon was fired? Wouldn't both the shooter and victim have to be in the car for the law you refer to apply?

LA is an open and carry state, so you can walk down the middle of the street with it on your hip so not sure if he had it concealed or not. If concealed with no permit, yes it is illegal. As far as both needing to be in the car when used for it to be legal, no. You can remove it from your car for use. All the law is saying, is you can have a gun in your car and it can be on the dash or in the console concealed, does not matter as it is an extension of your home. If you have a conceal and carry permit you learn all of this in your training. Good training for anyone with a handgun to just learn the laws even if you do not intend to conceal and carry.
