At the rate Tech is losing, ending up in the bottom pod is a real probability and not making it to the C-USA Tournament is a possibility. Wow!!!!!
That loss to USM last weekend was the one that hurt the most. We were forced into overtime after going 5-12 from the line in the second half, including the front end of at least a couple of 1 and 1's.
Win that game and we're in a tie for 5th with 2 teams we beat head to head - USM and UAB - with only UTSA and a home game standing between us and Pod 1.
I was just posting about that earlier today on the BleedTechBlue forum. I won't go into all the seeding possibilities within the pod, but it boils down to this...
If we win, we are in the 2nd pod.
If we lose and Rice loses we are in the 2nd pod.
If we lose and Rice wins, then we need both MTSU and FIU to win in order to sneak into the 2nd pod, otherwise we are in Pod 3 due to tiebreakers.
Pods?
an elongated seed vessel of a leguminous plant such as the pea, splitting open on both sides when ripe.
Does this make you want to rush to buy tickets to a Pod 2 or Pod 3 series ??

C-USA will likely crown its weakest champion in history this season. Barring a strong surge from ODU to finish the season, this will be the first C-USA champ to finish outside the KenPom Top 100. C-USA doesn't even have a single team on the bubble for the NIT this year.
This year turned out to be a very bad season for bonus pod play. All this trouble and increased expenses for absolutely nothing in return. Will the media continue to parrot the positive talking points, or will anyone tell the truth that it was a total failure?
It honestly wouldn't surprise me if Tech won the C-USA Tourney this year. There really isn't a single good team in this conference this season. I think every team that makes the tournament has a legit chance to win it. Somebody's going to get lucky and win it. Had our guys made any free throws, we would've beaten every team in the top pod that we've played thus far. Missed FTs cost us games against ODU, UNT, and USM, and we beat WKU. But we also lost to a bad FAU team that was missing two starters... Let's see how we do against UTSA today.

Cooosa is pathetic. Easily the worst conference affiliation in Tech's history. And what is worse, we can't even remotely approach being the "tallest midget in this lousy room." FIRE TMAC YESTERDAY!
And...Dr. Guice gets it? Gets what?
We may be able to tie it up with UAB today. They play WKU and we play at home. If we win, I think we will move into 6th place for seeding based on the fact that we beat UAB. It is just a shame that we can't host the tournament, because we don't lose at home. We definitely have a road curse, though!
Can't shoot FTs. If I am coaching against Tech...I'm fouling. Hack! Hack! Hack! Use your bench guys, who don't play much anyway. We can't shoot 3s either. So, pack in a tight zone, and clobber any Tech guy with the ball near the rim, off an offensive rebound or whatever.
And never say "we don't lose at home." Might have just jinxed us!
