Don't show this to Tommy.
The only worthwhile proposal in this article was suggesting the two Sunbelt Louisiana teams drop to FCS and be put into separate conferences so they can both call themselves "Louisiana".
Everything else was a waste of time.
Total lack of respect for what he have done in 30 years of FBS. We have won 5 straight Bowl games and garnered 2 Division titles over the last 6 years. This is just another Fan Post turned Article where some groupie hand picks his teams and discards the rest to fit his little fantasy world. While I agree that at least a dozen teams need to move to FCS, Tech along with Marshall, Southern Miss and NIU have been poster children for doing a lot with a little.

Attendance sucks at our games these days. Not what we once were, but hard to fathom USM scanned less than 15k/game last year. Fedora's last season there averaged over 30k/game.
I did not keep up with the rest of the conference, but it looks like we are not alone. Maybe it's time to trim some waste and merge with the best of the belt ?
Hattiesburg and Ruston have relatively tiny metropolitan statistical areas. We can discuss solutions to our attendance issues, but the fact is that 15k people coming to USM and Tech games is mind-boggling as a percentage of the surrounding population. Raw attendance numbers are misleading.
Scanned tickets only tells a small portion of the story. Even Alabama has attendance issues this season so I find turnstile performance to be misleading. It does tell us that we are sliding and that our student body needs to be energized. The important parts they left out is the fact that we raised almost 6 million in private donations, we have an over .500 winning percentage in FBS and we have been to bowl games 30% of the seasons we were eligible.
just send the two Louisianas to FCS (in difference conferences, so they can both call themselves Louisiana), and let the Sun Belt sit at eight teams. The Sun Belt can play a seven-game round robin, with an extra FCS home game per team per season.
Yep! that part makes sense.
I personally would love a eight to nine team conference. There would be enough OOC schools out there to fill in the gaps between and FCS team and the traditional money games.
Exactly what good is gained from combining the best CUSA schools with the best Sunbelt schools? The answer is nothing. That wouldn't excite me or any other Tech fan I know.
Dropping Charlotte, FIU or UTSA for the likes of Ark St, Coastal Carolina or Troy doesn't move the needle. In fact, it's a laughable suggestion. It won't excite LA Tech fans any more than what CUSA's current lineup already does.
UTSA is a drivable away game for most Tech fans, but Charlotte and Both FU’s are not. Closer opponents MIGHT increase interest and attendance some, but I doubt it, as college football attendance is on the decline everywhere.
It’s far easier to watch games on a hi-def big screen at home or at a sports bar than it is to make the effort to actually go to the stadium. When you combine this with the fact that Tech has seen to it to ruin the game day experience for students while at the same time making tailgating too much of a pain in the ass for most to bother with anymore, we will start to regularly see crowds of less than 10,000 at JAS.
I’m renewing my season tickets, but I do expect to see our season ticket sales drop drastically this year. I talked with our new ticket sales manager just this week. He worked in the Cleveland Indian organization for the last twenty years and he seems to really know the business, so maybe there’s a ray of hope.
