9 of 10 90% she shot better than that over her full 4-year career, 95%, which shows you what can be done.
Why the Techsters, and the Dawgs, can't shoot FTs better than they do I don't understand. It's not very hard.
I mean, if it weren't very hard, wouldn't more people do it? Nine players in men's Division I basketball have shot 90% or better from the FT line. Only nine women have done it. (Brooke is tied for third on the list at 91.5%, not 95%.) In the NBA, it's just three players ever -- Steph Curry, Steve Nash and Mark Price. Steph Curry, inarguably the greatest shooter of all time, has made 90.48% of his NBA career free throws and made 87.57% in college. So, to say it's "not very hard" isn't exactly correct.

Making free throws in a game is like making two and a half foot putts with something on the line - it's a lot more difficult than one would think
I can school my son every time at the FT line making between 7 & 9 out of 10 wearing a pair of boots with no warm-ups
I can make one handed two footers all Saturday long with nothing on the line at the course - because there is NO pressure and what's between my ears doesn't get in the way
Let me run up and down the court a few times with the youth and that percentage drops remarkably
Or let me get to Sunday and need a 3 to 5 footers to finish in the money and it's a totally different story

Talked to Konkol about this 2 weeks ago. He equated a free throw to a 6 foot putt. I have missed plenty of those.
You people remind of my daughter, in the years after we adopted her from Russia and she was still mastering English (which like many of us, she's still working on). She took everything literally. I mean everything!! Quick example...she was running late for school and I called to her, Come on! it's already quarter after 7. She glanced at the clock and argued, no it isn't, it's only 7:13.
When I said it's not hard, I meant that shooting FTs, at a decent %, is not hard. Sorry all of you "literal" types couldn't read into it what I really meant. Next time, I'll explain in more detail, since some of you are incapable of thinking for yourselves. Sheeesh!
Karl malone was a horrible FT shooter...until he schooled himself and practiced...and practiced...and practiced! Konkol and Brooke should have the shooting FTs until 70% is a given.
I'm an asshole! What's your excuse?
And remember Karl didn't achieve that until about 5 years into his pro career if my memory serves me correctly

I'd be happy at 72% and I think the biggest improvement came between years two and three for Karl.
I'm an asshole! What's your excuse?
Basically same trend as Paul -
Folks tend to forget the BEST year Paul had at Tech from the FT line was barely 64% and he went to the line ALOT
But he is a career 73% FT shooter at the pro level
Why?
Amount of time he could dedicate to improving that part of his game
Some never can - Shaq is the best example
It is HARD to shoot 70% from the line at the collegiate level - VERY hard

You are correct. Lonnie Cooper finished the 1998-99 season with a free throw shooting percentage of .921. Wow! And he improved every year.
