    The New Green Deal

This deserves its own thread.. The New Green Deal, which is being supported by many Democratic leaders in the party, including a few POTUS candidates is basically for eliminating fossil fuels in 12 years. Here's some other things that are included with in it.

*Rebuild every single building in the U.S.
“Upgrade or replace every building in US for state-of-the-art energy efficiency.”

*Will end all traditional forms of energy in the next ten years.
The Green New Deal is “a 10-year plan to mobilize every aspect of American society at a scale not seen since World War 2 to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions.”

*Plans to ban nuclear energy within 10 years if possible.
“It’s unclear if we will be able to decommission every nuclear plant within 10 years, but the plan is to transition off of nuclear and all fossil fuels as soon as possible.”

*Build trains across oceans and end all air travel!
“Build out highspeed rail at a scale where air travel stops becoming necessary”.

*Don’t invest in new technology of Carbon Capture and Storage, just plant trees instead!
“We believe the right way to capture carbon is to plant trees and restore our natural ecosystems. CCUS technology to date has not proven effective.”

*Mandates all new jobs be unionized.
“Ensure that all GND jobs are union jobs that pay prevailing wages and hire local.”

    *May include a carbon tax.
“We’re not ruling a carbon tax out, but a carbon tax would be a tiny part of a Green New Deal.”

    *May include cap and trade.
“…Cap and trade may be a tiny part of the larger Green New Deal plan.”

    *How much will it cost?
No estimate of the total cost of implementing the Green New deal is offered by Ocasio-Cortez.

However, as Ocasio-Cortez admits, “even if every billionaire and company came together and were willing to pour all the resources at their disposal into this investment, the aggregate value of the investments they could make would not be sufficient.”

She does provide one estimate that the cost to “repair and upgrade infrastructure U.S. infrastructure” alone will cost “$4.6 trillion at minimum.”

*How will it be paid for? Don’t worry about that.
Ocasio-Cortez doesn’t provide any insight into how the trillions of dollars in spending will be paid for other than claiming, “The Federal Reserve can extend credit to power these projects and investments and new public banks can be created to extend credit”. But as Ocasio-Cortez says, “the question isn’t how will we pay for it, but what will we do with our new shared prosperity”.

We have a couple of posters here who will eventually defend it because it is part of the socialist agenda.

I am not a socialist and don’t support it. But, the green revolution is upon us. There is no need for the government to mandate it.

Every Democrat that supports this juvenile proposal will be writing their own political obituaries. More power to them. May they all go out with the same whimper that George McGovern, Walter Mondale, and Michael Dukakis did.

It could make sense in small applications such as a single home in Lincoln Parish, but not scalable for medium to large cities such as Shreveport or Houston etc.

If it is truly better, the market will inexorably produce it. I think it will, eventually.

Both may make liberals feel good, but neither will be a practical replacement for fossil fuels for decades to come. This New Green Deal proposal is beyond ridiculous and it has the potential of killing off the Democrat Party. That party's establishment understands this very well. I look for moderate Democrats to start jumping ship soon, as the Cortez/Sanders/Warren wing of their party seems to be taking it over. The radical idiot Democrats are making 2020 too easy for the Republicans.

They should all resign. By the way, it seems like most Democratic leaders agree with that. A completely different reaction than you get on the Republican side where the flavor of the day has been “win at all cost”.

Ok. When you combine those technologies with improved batteries and smart grids, I think it will be possible, but I think it will still take some time - more than 10 years to get there.

While climate change will be one driver - the ability to get near zero marginal cost for energy will be the economic motivator.

It really isn’t worth the effort to rescuscitate the coal industry though. Natural gas, which we have tons of, is a much better fuel source for powering the grids. If nuclear fusion gets here sooner though, that technology will disrupt them all. I really think fusion and solar is our future.

BS! It's been Repubs who have resigned at the first mention of anything. Dems have stayed in office, mostly. Yes, there have been some cases of Dems resigning, Al Franken, for instance. But he was guilty of stealing that seat anyway.

For the record...I do not support someone resigning over a pic in a yearbook from decades ago. Even that evil scumbag Virginia guvnor. He should be kicked out of office for his baby-killing measure. AND! that is the ONLY reason the Dems are calling for his resignation. Oh, they support murdering babies too, but that proposal was too much/too soon and has political ramifications. So! it was the Dems, yes the Dems, who leaked those pics of his yearbook so they will have an excuse to ask him to resign. Notice how that news, of his yearbook pics, has overshadowed the news of his baby-killing. Mission accomplished for the Dems and their allies in the lamestream media.

Goosey you are either so gullible it is laughable, or you're just part of the commie propaganda machine. No way could you just be this stupid.

I agree with Guisslapp that we should all wait to see what the girls of "The View" think about this before we pass judgement.

    Re: The New Green Deal

This Northam stuff is such a great study in the hypocrisy of both parties. The dems only force resignation when there are no political consequences (see Al Franken) and the Republicans condemn the VA politicos while remaining silent on Steve King and Roy Moore.

A pox on both their houses.
