    2019 QBs

    True Freshman
    Jakson Thomas
    6-3, 195
    Dallas, TX

    Redshirt Freshman
    Aaron Allen
    6-1, 193
    Missouri City, TX

    Cameron Bates
    6-3, 220
    Pineville, LA

    Redshirt Sophomore
    Nate Cox
    6-8, 216
    Lafayette, LA

    Redshirt Junior
    Westin Elliot
    6-5, 224
    Shallowater, TX

    Redshirt Senior
    J'Mar Smith
    6-1, 226
    Meridian, MS

Looks to me like two guys who haven't beat out J'Mar yet and two who haven't really competed with him in earnest. You guys who are rooting for J'Mar to ride the pine, put your chips on Aaron Allen.

    Cameron Bates
    6-3, 220

We are all really high on Cameron. We think he has all the tools of a Division I QB, and if he'd had a second year in Coach Dunn's system, we think he could have been the top QB in Louisiana. He's coming off a shoulder injury, and he certainly isn't going to beat out J'Mar in the spring, but we are hopeful he gets a legitimate opportunity to compete in 2020.

There's some info in this old story about Westin Elliott that I never knew. I'd still like to see this kid play. In high school he was only 6'1. Now he's 6'5. He probably just needs some playing time to get better. Unfortunately, J'Mar has soaked up all the playing time in this program the last 2 years.

We've got all of these prospects and we have to deal with J'Mar? What puts him over the others other than?

Garrett Hable is a walkon from Benton. Not sure if he gets a look at qb, but he's a player.

I don't know if it matters.... Will he give anyone else a chance? I think we will have J'Mar again this next year....

Smith is our man no matter what. To believe anything else is just adding unnecessary stress to your life. I’m more concerned about how the defense does after the change. If they’re status quo or better, I think we can be 6-6 with Smith. If they’re worse, it’s 2006 again.

We don't have a linebackers in place to run his defense. That will be the excuse…

I like the guys we have up front, but you are right, we don't have a Jelly Bean Ellis type player. There were a couple that I thought our HC may go after when he realized we'd be running a different scheme, but nope. He says all our LBs are rock stars and ready for prime time.

Professor, is that a quote or is that your assessment? Just curious.
He is definitely the dark horse of the group, and I wouldn't be surprised if he is named QB1 at some point down the road.

My assessment, but given that I'm on staff at Pineville, most of that is straight from Coach Dunn's mouth. He told me, point blank, that if he had Cameron for two years instead of one that he would have been the top QB in Louisiana. He's big, he's strong, he's athletic, he has a great arm, and he can make all of the throws. We were just absolutely awful on defense his senior year.

How’d his offense do against West Monroe?
