    Oh, What Could Have Been!

Women's Basketball Rankings: Baylor Still Unanimous No. 1 in AP Poll as Conference Tournaments Approach

Baylor remained the unanimous No. 1 choice in The Associated Press women’s basketball poll.

The Lady Bears, who have been atop the rankings for six weeks, received all 28 first-place votes from a national media panel Monday. The Lady Bears have the longest winning streak in the country, 19 games, and close out the regular season Monday night at West Virginia.

The question is, would our dominance have continued had we retained Mulkey?

It would have last longer, we would have eventually started a slower decline. That being said, even if she had eventually moved on, I don’t think we would have been here so soon.

No - she would of left sooner rather than later...

We can ponder what might have been forever, and we will never know for sure. However, perhaps we can all agree that the failure to retain Kim was Dan Reneau's biggest blunder as president of LTU.

I think we might have won another title in those first two years, but after that we'd have been dropping off quickly (possibly only helped if we'd brought in Sophia Young). The money being spent elsewhere was just going to be too much eventually though.

That blunder may be in the top three but hiring Jerry Stovall is definitely number one. Allowing Eagles to be hired away had a much larger economic impact on our program than losing pigtails

Yes, and George Washington's biggest blunder was failing to retain the services of Benedict Arnold. Oh wait! just like pigtails HE CHOSE to be a traitor.

I continue to marvel at you stupid idiots who blame Reneau for pigtails' decision to stab her alma mater in the back.

In this photo, Kim Mulkey was quoted saying: "I WANT DAWG80!! I'M GONNA KICK HIS ARSE!!"

I will give her the first punch. Can you set it up?

Meanwhile, the facts are unchanged re: Ms. Benedict Arnold

I think most close to the athletic department don't agree with that at all. Especially now that more and more has surfaced over the years about what transpired in the days immediately before she left.

Reneau had his faults. Some of what went on within the athletic department during his tenure would want to make you cry. But the situation with Kim isn't one of them. For two decades the women's basketball budget at Tech, when factoring in camp and shoe money, was more than the men's budget at Tech.

In negotiations, Kim was offered $300K a year in salary but was also told the women's basketball budget was not going to grow anytime in the near future. She agreed to that with Reneau and Oakes but then privately fumed. It got to point that it was clear that if she stayed she would have caused turmoil with the department and university. She was as competitive a person as I've ever met. The program slipping out of the Top 10 and then eventually the Top 25 would have eaten her alive.

Can anyone here imagine what it would have been like if she had to deal with Dooley.

As I said Reneau had his faults. The situation with Kim isn't one of them.
