Re: Oh, What Could Have Been!

Leadership matters, bad leadership like what has existed at Tech and continues to exist in certain regards matters more because bad leadership lingers like a putrid stink. As we all know it can take decades to overcome bad decision making, if it’s ever overcome. It seems like the destruction of the Lady Techsters is like a curse that the basketball gods are never going to forgive.

THREE TIME NATIONAL CHAMPION. Way to go Coach Mulkey. You have now won more than your mentor, but I suspect he is very happy for you.

There is one person that should be thanked for the success of the Lady Techesters and all the former coaches, assistant coaches, and former players. His name is President F. j. Taylor. Without his consent the glory days of the program would never have happened. He gave them their opportunity.

Would Dan Reneau have agreed to start a women's basketball team. I doubt it.

ZERO money in winning WBB games.

As a guy said long ago, if WBB was relevant, Vegas would take odds on WBB games.

Nobody cares. Nobody cares about her lack of negotiation skills or those of our president who looked away from the sports that really mattered...Football and MBB.

Ah, yeah, and Baylor is hanging up new ones on the regular...because...the backwards institutional culture at Tech chased off one of the preeminent talents in her field after the better part of two decades of service to Tech.

So to clarify--Mulkey won. She won a better paying job at an institution that respected her immediately. And she took a perennially losing program and made it a dynasty.

And to clarify further--Tech lost. Tech lost a preeminent talent who did everything one could reasonably expect to earn her place at Tech. And Tech has lost because so much of its fan base, such as it is, is dominated by provincial, bigoted rubes like you and Dawg80.

Well, actually, he won three too. He just doesn't get credit for all of them.

HER lack of negotiation skills? Do you have any idea how foolish that sounds? Talk about sour grapes...

Who gives a crap what Vegas thinks of WBB? I saw a pretty full arena tonight, and a great BB game on NATIONAL TV involving two traditional P5 football & MBB schools that care. Tell me LA Tech couldn't use a good dose of that?

As for MBB mattering in Ruston, that's downright laughable. There's zero money in MBB in Ruston. ZERO. LA Tech hasn't been to an NCAA tournament in 30 years. The men's program hasn't really mattered in about 33 years. And don't talk to me about making money at MBB....because people really DON'T care.

When I read posts like the one you just wrote above, I literally want to throw my hands up and say just forget the whole LA Tech thing...there's just too many ignorant people in and around the LA Tech program, both in our administration, and in our fan base. If you (and others) can't learn from some of these monumental mistakes that Tech has made, then there's really no hope for success. Ignorance prevails.

I concur. For LA Tech, this has turned out to be one of the biggest mistakes in the history of Tech athletics.

Louisiana Tech should be getting players like this:

Baylor's 6'7" All-American center and the Big XII's Player of the Year, Kalani Brown, is the daughter of P.J. and Dee Brown. As most of you know, P.J. Brown was a 6-11 forward for five NBA franchises in a 15-year career. He won the 2008 NBA title with the Boston Celtics over Kobe Bryant and the Lakers. Meanwhile, his wife Dee Brown, was a 6-3 post player at Salmen High school in Louisiana who went on to play for the Lady Techsters at Louisiana Tech, where she met her husband. She serves as an assistant coach for Kalani's high school team.

Kalani Brown was Louisiana's Gatorade Player of the Year in 2014, and in 2015, she was named a McDonald's All-American during her senior year at the Louisiana school.

It's just sad that the Lady Techster program can no longer recruit legacy kids like this.
Malone, Slaughter, Robertson, Brown x2, Kelly, etc. She's just another in a growing line of legacies starring elsewhere.
