Kim Mulkey is a hell of a recruiter. She was a fantastic recruiter at LA Tech in the mid to late 80's and throughout the 90's, and of course later at Baylor. She made Leon Barmore's job much easier at Tech. People forget that Baylor was a door mat before Mulkey arrived. She built that powerhouse the hard way; by recruiting against women's BB powers UT (1986 NC), OU (3 Women's Final Fours), Texas Tech (1993 NC), etc... IMO, LA Tech would have certainly remained in the Top 25, simply due to her reputation and ability to recruit top athletes. The Lady Techsters could have been the "Gonzaga" of women's Basketball.

Which makes her traitorous act even more hurtful.

George Washington said of Benedict Arnold, "he is a better general than me." And the facts support that. The Americans were 4-0 under General Arnold's tactical leadership, and we were 2-6 in the eight major battles fought when Washington was in command on the field. If Arnold had been a lousy general, I doubt history would have made that much of him. He wasn't the only one to switch sides during the Revolutionary War...but he sure is heck the one we remember.

Those of you stating the Techsters might still be, probably would still be, a national factor with pigtails at the helm only serve to further emphasize what her stabbing her alma mater in the back has meant.

Brooke needs to recruit 5 males out of the high school ranks who would agree to identify as females and then schedule UConn, Baylor and ND....

Unfortunately we have nothing to offer America's top recruits anymore. La Tech was on of 2-3 programs that attracted Americas best players but that was 25-30 years ago and we are irrelevant to the new generation of top players. Doesn't mean we cant attract some talent but not nearly the depth of talent of the 80s and early 90s. We are SO FAR removed that all we have is a bunch of old people like myself that dreams of "good ole days". Whether Mulkey would have kept it going, who knows. I do think the eventually that gap was gonna close with or without her at the helm. The money invested in today's womens b-ball far surpasses the days when we were one of the top investors.

Coaching imo is not our issue now, its talent. We just dont have nearly enough to compete against the better programs and as much as I hope that will change I really dont expect we will ever climb much higher than to the top of CUSA and right now that's still a stretch.
