Different year, same results.
The guy who was passed over for our HC job is the guy who was let go as our pitching coach and now works with USM's pitchers. We are about to see who handles pitching better. It was obvious in 2017 that our pitchers were being handled in a different way by our new HC. One year of disagreement between our HC and our "Co-HC (pitching coach) led to him going home to USM. We paid the price in 2017 and continue to pay the price in 2019.
FYI, we have a roster of 34. We are allowed 35. Either somebody was kicked off, quit, flunked out or our coach can't count.
Of the 34, Leal is a question mark, but it is understandable that he kept him available (although he did not do the same for one of our best players last year).
Now of the 33 remaining 13 are pitchers. 1 of those has not seen the field. 2 have made one appearance. 1 has only 4 appearances.
Pitching will likely be what costs us the most games if LB's style holds true.
It's ALL about pitching.
The three keys to winning in baseball are, in order of importance:
1. Pitching
2. Pitching
3. Pitching
Looking a lot like opening series of 2017.
Burroughs=Holtz.
Great at coach speak and excuses.
Consistently questionable game day decisions and strategy.
Team plays inconsistent. A lot of WTF games.
Can’t beat USM.
Will never win a conference championship.
The only reason I would go tomorrow would be to run the USM fans out of my seats, and that ain’t a good enough reason.
Good old Memorial Gym
Daddy for the sweep tomorrow. We need to drop to FCS. We have no desire to be a D1 team in any sport.
Hugely disappointing performances these two games. Talent aside, which is questionable on Tech’s side considering how easily Southern Miss does what they need to more often than not while Tech doesn’t, I question our team’s enthusiasm and desire. It’s very disturbing to see our biggest rival come to Ruston and beat us like this is their home field. It’s absolutely unacceptable!
Of my various gripes regarding the way Tech goes about things is our Little League pitch calling. OMG who still throws almost a foot off the plate on 0-2 counts? I hate giving the batter what is essentially a pitch off the regain his focus. It’s unbelievable how often we go from 0-2 to giving up walks or hits just because we’re teasing batters instead of challenging them.
Gave up 29 hits in two games and several free passes
Hard to win with that kind of effort
We suck in every sport that even remotely matters. Les Guice=Dan Reneau. How we have anybody that follows Tech Athletics is a great mystery.
JMO, but I believe LG has given our AD free reign compared to DR micromanaging everything down to fund raising and popcorn sales. As others have said, it is ultimately the responsibility of our President to fix the problems. That's when the politics begin. In Louisiana a coach has to fail for at least 2 years in a row before being fired. True fans disagree on what defines failure.
Back to baseball...our AD has people in his ear who know the sport. They are surprised at the lack of pitching even after seeing how our coach handled it last year and the year before.
Anybody know why we only have 34 on our roster?
I enjoyed my first Tech baseball game in several years. JC Love is a nice facility. I’ve learned to try and enjoy Tech sports for the event and forget the outcome.
