In Louisiana a coach has to fail for at least 2 years in a row before being fired. True fans disagree on what defines failure.

Back to baseball...our AD has people in his ear who know the sport. They are surprised at the lack of pitching even after seeing how our coach handled it last year and the year before.

Anybody know why we only have 34 on our roster?
Concerning the pitching, did we not recruit any? These are the same guys as last year for the most part.

I heard Burroughs on the radio about two weeks ago. He seemed very confident about this team. Either the guy is full of BS or doesn’t really know what he has. Probably both.

He signed some pitchers but not enough. Example: One of the guys he threw out there yesterday saw his third appearance in 3 years. Not sure why he is on the team when better pitchers have been cut.

He has his entire team coming back other than SS. He picked up several Juco guys who have not helped much...yet.

I wonder if our concession stand peeps remembered to buy catsup packets for today.

We are not competing so far. Down 2-0. 3 walks with one other walk being callled an out because of the gay ncaa baseball rules. Southern miss still batting in T1.

On the verge of another non-quality start down 3-0.

Timely not getting out of the way on a HBP called for a strike under the new rule. Fortunately it happened on a 2-strike count to get a strikeout.

Mallard hits a 2-run "shot" over our Little League right-field fence to make it 3-2 still batting in the bottom of the 1st.

So we gave up 13 runs in the 1st 3 innings for the three games. This is the best we got for weekend starters?

Tech won't finish above .500 in conference play if this keeps up.

Tech gets a gift run in the bottom of the 3rd on a dropped fly ball that should have been the third out. USM pitching change with Tech down 4-3.

Tech is staring down a 2-3 Sunday record and a 6-6 overall home record without a major comeback today.

So if I calculated right, Tech’s pitchers finished this series with a WHIP of 2.3. That’s really bad. You’re going to give up a lot of runs when you allow that many base runners. This is eerily similar to 2017. We had a lot returning players and got worse, especially pitching. This year seems to be on a similar trajectory.

27 runs in 3 games yielded -OUCH
What’s odd is pretty much ALL of our pitchers are struggling to get ahead of hitters & get outs. Meanwhile our. RBI hitters continue to connect about 20-25% of the time

Re: Southern Miss @ the LoveShack

A series sweep in the defeat column says it all for the Tech season, it’s all over except for playing it out. We are not even close to the same caliber of team as Southern Miss. It was men against boys in comparing their player baseball skills to ours. No question.

It’s also unmistakable how lacking our coaching is in the three major phases of the game. Burroughs can’t seem to lead the way, he can’t get the best effort from his players and he can’t change course when things aren’t on track.

Our pitching coach has to be awful because we’re actually getting worse as the season progresses. I’ve already commented in a previous post how poorly I think our pitch calling is. It’s as if we’re pitching conceding that we can’t risk challenging hitters. In other words we’re pitching afraid. I think that makes our pitchers very tentative. As a result we’re missing the zone and walking too many batters.

You can’t say much for our hitting either. Of the players on the team who can hit, they do often enough for themselves but not so much for the team if that makes sense. The rest aren’t that good really and what’s worse is that they’re not improving. For several who I won’t name they do the same thing every game, swing at the same get-you-out not a strike pitch. Surely our hitting coach know that so and so can’t hit a curve and they’re working on it, or that so and so can’t hit a high fastball and they’re working on not swinging at it, or that a couple of so and sos can’t hit off speed pitching and dare I say they’re working on it.

At this point in the season seeing what I’m seeing if things don’t change in a significant way I’d be inclined to at least see some assistant coaches changes for next year and maybe even Burroughs depending on how bad things end up.

Right now after a bottom of the barrel conference opening weekend I have a really bad feeling how this season is going to go. I still can’t quite believe how easily we were beaten with so much to be gained this weekend.

We paid the price in 2017 and continue to pay the price in 2019.

FYI, we have a roster of 34. We are allowed 35. Either somebody was kicked off, quit, flunked out or our coach can't count.

Of the 34, Leal is a question mark, but it is understandable that he kept him available (although he did not do the same for one of our best players last year).

Now of the 33 remaining 13 are pitchers. 1 of those has not seen the field. 2 have made one appearance. 1 has only 4 appearances.

Pitching will likely be what costs us the most games if LB's style holds true.

    It's ALL about pitching.

I said earlier that by the 17th, we would know where we stand. The season is now over and there’s no hope for a regional. At least now we don’t go through the season with some hope only to have a season ending collapse. They went ahead and got that out of the way early.
