$800,000? That’s not market value
Also, how did the advocate in Baton Rouge know about this in September and we are just getting confirmation?
probably sounds like pretty big money to a southland a.d. ??
Sometimes it's not all about the money.
So our 2020 OOC is three road games: at UNLV, Baylor, and Vandy, and probably a SWAC or SLC at home. Nice! (not).
BTW, if we have a QB...yippee! and any kind of decent defense, all three of those road games are winnable. But, alas, we'll still have Skippy .
Vanderbilt paid Nevada $900K to play this year. The deal with Nevada was signed in 2017 (the same year the Tech/Vandy contract was signed), which was pretty last minute, with Nevada coming off a 5-7 campaign in 2016 and no season better than 7-6 since Colin Kaepernick was a senior in 2010. So I think if I’m the Vanderbilt AD, I’d be less willing to play Tech than a Nevada and would look for another opponent unless Tech reduced their payout demand. Vanderbilt has no other guarantee games on their future schedules.
This arrangement gives us a winnable road game against a P5, we can schedule an FCS at home instead of Vandy (who would draw no additional fans whatsoever) and net $500K in the process. It is evident that Tommy is trying to balance financials, winnability, and schedule strength. It sure beats home and homes against UNLV and Bowling Green and add $0 to the budget.
We need more data points than what Nevada got to say whether or not we're being fairly paid. They're out there. At first blush, I agree with Sportdawg. Doesn't seem like market value to me.

Vandy stadium holds less than 40,000.
Just looking up other area G5 teams are getting. I think we should have gotten over $1 Million from Vandy. They do get a lot of money from SEC and ESPN.
Our future games against Texas, Clemson, NC State are $1.1 Million each. Comparing to what A-State is getting, we are some cheap hoes.
Arkansas State
2019 at Georgia ($1.8 M)
2020 at Michigan ($1.8 M)
2021 at Washington ($1.75 M)
