I think we are overthinking the pedestrian overpass thing. Tech drive nor Alabama is ever busy enough to justify it except possibly on (football) game days. Then you consider the cost and MORE friggin' ADA crap...

More people walk across the street in downtown Shreveport daily than would on a 20K attendance football game in Ruston.

Yep. I think we need shuttles or a tram on game days to utilize on-campus parking (or at the Joe for baseball/softball/soccer). The trams/shuttles could be used during the school year to utilize parking at the Joe for students. According to Ruston Re-Imagined (Comprehensive Plan Pg 13), there is a hope to develop "a shared shuttle service with Grambling State University, Louisiana Tech University, the Louisiana Center for the Blind, Downtown, and employment centers."

What type of cost savings come with digging it out like that, if any? To me it seems like the way to go at the current site.

In a state of conference tournament disgust, I’ve come to realize that when it comes to the newest version of a Tech baseball park it doesn’t matter where it is or what it looks like. It’s really nothing more than a skeleton without a competent coach and a talented accomplishing team to put some meat on its bones and some fans in its seats. All of this enthusiasm over newness and the spinoff optimism to a new sense of an improved program will be quickly squashed when what is Tech takes the field and once again repeatedly plays down to whomever the competition is.

Yes, I’m pissed that in the end we suck again.

I'm upset that we have TMac fans who think we should be satisfied with Mediocrity in a sport we should be a consistent top 40 RPI team instead of a top 60. The bar on football and MBB is even lower.

Doesn't matter. Just tweak the narrative that he "averages" over 35 wins per season and you're just as good.

It's not an enclosed structure like the one in Dawgonit's post above. But, I think I would prefer one like UNT's....covered, but not enclosed. Obviously, we would need a smaller version, but big enough to safely move 8K LA Tech football fans/students over Tech Drive during football season. Probably safer and easier to maintain too.

I support this idea! Probably much easier to maintain and would cost less than a fully air conditioned pedestrian bridge.

That's an understandable concern, I know many people drive in from far around to come to the games. Not everyone is a student that lives in walking distance. However I don't think there is really a parking problem in my plan. Here me out. First, I'm obviously not a fan or facilities being surrounded by parking lots. They don't add anything appealing a facility and the space can be better utilized in other ways. I'm not against all parking next to a facility though, I totally am fine with essential personnel and handicapped spots for the people that need them. However we don't need a parking spot next to the facilities for everyone going to the games; that would be almost impossible to do anyway.

We have lots of parking already near the stadium for everyone going to these games, even if softball and baseball will play games at the same time. The football stadiums parking lot is huge and can easily accommodate everyone needed. What the school can invest in is a transportation tram that are common in Disneyworld. They can transport people between the parking lots and the stadiums for the people that can't walk the distance.

Agreed, however my idea for an overpass wasn't for football games- it was to combine the Intramural center with an indoor practice facility. I imagine lots of student and intramural center users would make use of the facility everyday, the use of the pedestrian bridge for football games would just be lagniappe. The only other option to allow a safe crossing between the buildings would be to add a stoplight and a crosswalk, inhibiting traffic flow on Tech Dr. Of course this is all dependant on the indoor facility being built there and being a part of the intramural center. An idea I think would have have lots of benefits, but just fun message board talk really.

When the North Texas band goes over it in step the thing bounces, not very confidence inspiring.

Probably means it is built better to move just a little. Imagine the Band of Pride starting out in the Quad and marching all the way to football games over a bridge - the sound would carry and really be special!

Just found an old photograph I took of Love Field, 1982, taken from the roof of either Nielson or Caruthers. Tennis courts across Alabama Ave, and nothing but trees beyond the left field fence. Nostalgic!

A little mechanical resonance. It can be a spooky feeling when a bridge starts 'dancing to the rhythm'. https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.liv...vibration.html

Hawkins Field at Vandy is not very different from our field as far as dimensions. The more I look at other facilities, I am convinced we could rebuild in the same location. Slightly increase dimensions and add seating by increasing the number of seats over the dugouts and extending main grandstand up a few rows.
