Sure, the Ruskies can sell a few to China, and given all the problems they are having with it, they probably will! The Chicoms won't be any better at correcting all its flaws. But, apparently our guys have a pretty good idea what makes it tick and are preparing counter-measures...provided it ever becomes an operational threat.

Naturally, the Ruskies, masters of propaganda and tooting their own horn (because no one else will) have discounted the problems. As recently as March 20, 2020, the Russians said it just going thru some "childhood diseases" that will be corrected in time. Well, the Ruskies boasted it was operational back in 2017....hmmm, that's a long bout with a childhood disease.

    Thanks for the update Dawg80!

Just more proof that all communist governments lie! Heck all socialist governments do too which explains the Dems larger issues in their character as they try to move the United States in these directions. Might I suggest, to our fellow alumni and those not which are infatuated with socialism or communism, that they move to one of these countries with their families.

First China tries to kill the world population, especially Americans, and now....

Major power orders Christians: Renounce God or we'll cut off food and housing
'It has become difficult to maintain belief in God because of religious persecution'

    Published June 28, 2020 at 2:11pm

China's communist government is warning elderly Christians that they will lose basic benefits if they don't stop praticing their faith.

Bitter Winter, the online magazine about religious liberty and human rights in China, reports the Communist Party is threatening "to take away the last means of survival from elderly believers," the government benefits of "housing, food, clothing, medical care, and funeral expenses."

"A Catholic from Fuzhou city in the southeastern province of Jiangxi has been receiving monthly 250 RMB (about $ 35) from the government since 2018, the year her husband died," Bitter Winter reported.

"At the end of 2019, local government officials threatened the woman, in her 60s, that the subsidy would be withdrawn unless she removes images of Jesus from her home. 'Because the Communist Party feeds you,' they told the woman, 'you must only believe in it, not God.' Two months later, the pension was canceled because she refused to remove the symbols," the report said.

She told Bitter Winter, "It has become difficult to maintain belief in God because of religious persecution."

Reggie Littlejohn, founder and president of Women’s Rights Without Frontiers, said it's "a heartbreak and an outrage that widows and other elderly are forced to renounce their faith in order to receive stipends. For many, they may need these funds to survive."

"It [is] a pathetic act of cowardice to force desperate widows to choose between their survival and their God. This widow, who refused to renounce her faith potentially in the face of abject poverty, is heroic," she said.

“This form of religious persecution is on the rise in the area of China where we have our Save a Widow Campaign. I was just informed that in our area, a government official has instructed our widows to stay home on Sundays and not to go to church. He also ridiculed Jesus, saying, 'The Chinese government gives you 160 RMB (about $23). How much money does Jesus Christ give you?'"

She continued: "Fortunately for the widows in our area, they have a ready answer. Our fieldworkers bring love and compassion to widows, along with practical help: a $25 monthly stipend that makes a huge difference in their lives, providing food and warmth. Our fieldworkers encourage these widows in their faith, and many have found new hope that there is a God who loves them."

Littlejohn for years has fought China's one-child policy, which banned couples from having more than one child. It recently was changed to two children, but forced abortions still are part of the government's enforcement policy.

There is no doubt the Ruskies are way behind us in the technology race re: our militaries. But, they have built a class of beautiful looking ship...the Kirov Class "Battlecruiser."

While it is rightfully labeled as a mere "target" should it have the misfortune of engaging one of our cruisers, it is nonetheless, a great looking ship, and I love the class type "battlecruiser."

A brief history, battlecruisers came into their own during the late WWI period and the in-between period 1920-1940, and are the result of naval treaties that limited the size (tonnage) of capital ships. The concept is simple...put big guns, like those on a battleship, onto the hull of a heavy cruiser. Thus you have a powerful ship (armament) that also has speed, like 30+ knots. To make it work, though, armor had to be sacrificed. Thus you had a ship with a powerful punch...but a glass jaw. The two most famous such ships were the Germans' Graf Spee (aka a "pocket" battleship) and HMS Hood.

The modern day version the Russians have are the Kirov Class. They are the largest naval ships afloat...ah, next to our super carriers, which displace more tonnage, of course. They have two operational right now, with two more planned. They are not to be trifled with...unless you are flying a US flag, then go ahead, trifle with 'em. There was a war game scenario, a computer-generated matchup, between the Russian battlecruiser and several types of US ships. Our cruisers defeated the Kirovs 10 out of 10 times with some of the simulations lasting mere minutes, which was the flight time of our guided missiles to their decks. The Kirov faired a little better, winning 2 of 10 against our latest destroyers. To find a worthwhile opponent, the war gamers matched one of our Burke Class destroyers 1 on 1 with a Kirov. Now, while the Burke Class is a quality destroyer, it is not designed to tangle 1 on 1 with a capital ship...like a battlecruiser. In a squadron of say 4 Burkes, yes, they would defeat the Kirov, but 1 on 1 is a bit much to ask. The Kirov won 7 of the 10 simulations, the Burke 2, and the 10th one was called a draw. But, even in defeat, the Burke dealt the Kirov some serious damage.

It's all about technology. Our radar, fire-control, tracking and targeting systems, and the missiles themselves are all superior.

Still, she is a pretty ship. But then HMS Hood was a pretty ship too....

    Re: China

News....dated July 7, 2020 (please note that today is July 6th....here, but Australia is across the International Date Line...it is tomorrow there already)

Australia confirms it is upgrading and improving Tindal Air Base to accommodate more B-52s and other larger US aircraft.

They also confirm the purchase of 200 LRASM 2's (long range anti-ship missiles), 18 F-35 fighters, and the improved land-based cruise missile capable of reaching mainland China launched from Australian sites. The Aussies have also been busy developing their own strike aircraft, which will carry the LRASM 2 and other missiles. They have also launched two new guided-missile frigates that together with land-based assets will defend Australia's western coast, freeing up other navy assets to assume an offensive role in any confrontation with China.

The US has just announced the operational status of the brand new, advanced LRASM 3. They will be deployed to our Pacific fleet, and can be launched from surface ships, subs, and from aircraft.

We say to China "Check! your move..."

    Re: China

The Chicoms have sent their aircraft carrier, the Liaoning, escorted by two frigates and two destroyers, on an "intimidation tour" steaming just outside of Japan's territorial waters. Like, "look at us, we be powerful!"

    Hah!

The USS Ronald Reagan super carrier and its task force are on station near Japan. A fight between the two carriers wouldn't last an hour, and that includes the flight time of our jets reaching the Chicom's boat.

The Liaoning is an oil-fueled vessel, built by the Soviets in the mid-80's. It can carry only 40 planes, and the main strike aircraft of the ship is the woefully under-powered Shenyang J-15. It can carry only 4,000 pounds of ordnance.

By contrast, the Reagan is a nuclear-powered ship, carrying 80 planes, including the F-18 Hornet and Super Hornet, said planes capable of carrying 17,000 pounds of ordnance. Also, our carriers have the sophisticated Growler radar-jamming aircraft that will blind the Chicoms leaving them vulnerable to our attacks.

Game, set, and match to the USS Ronald Reagan in less than an hour.

    Re: China

BTW, China operates two carriers, the other is Shandong, and is very similar to the Liaoning. And just as useless...

As I posted sometime back, the US just entered into an alliance with Japan, Australia, India, and Norway specifically designed to cooperate in a military effort vs. China, should it come to that. I'm still not sure why Norway wanted in...but, they are welcomed. Taiwan is a de facto partner in this alliance, but was not a named partner so as not to incite the Chicoms.

India has been busy building up their military, by buying US equipment, thanks to President Trump. India has also developed its own domestic defense industry and has entered into joint projects with others, especially Israel, in the development of weapon systems.

India has just launched three new destroyers, the Kolkata Class. Very capable ships with long-range missiles and torpedoes and carrying two attack-helicopters. Better than anything the Chicoms have in the destroyer class of ship. India currently operates one carrier, the Kiev Class, originally Russian built, and carrying MIG-29s as its primary fighter. The Indians will be replacing the MIGS with US built Hornets over the next couple of years. The carrier has a compliment of 36 planes, all better than anything the Chicoms have. The primary land-based fighter is the Sukhoi, jointly developed with Israel. Designed as fast-interceptor capable of tracking and attacking bombers. India has launched one nuclear sub, with 4 more being built. The Arihant Class sub carries 4 large nuclear warhead ICBMs and 15 smaller ship to ship missiles, as well as long range tracking torpedoes. Finally, India has deployed its land-based nuclear ICBMs, the Agni 5 series rocket. It will be housed in hardened fixed silos and on mobile trailer units, making it nearly impossible to eliminate them in a first strike. India has also enhanced its border defenses, especially in the mountain passes connecting to China. India's small neighbor, and staunch ally, Bhutan, has also upgraded its military to work in unison with India in the case of war with China.

And this...last week a border skirmish erupted between Russian and Chicom troops along their shared border. No reports on casualties, and both sides admit to rising tension between the two countries.

China is finding itself more and more isolated. They can ease world tension by stopping their biological weapons development, such as SARS II, aka Covid-19, aka "the China Virus," as a first step.

    Re: China

Another BTW....India has become the primary anti-pirate policeman operating near Somalia. Using their fast corvettes (smaller than a frigate) with its rapid-firing 3" main gun, and supported by an array of 20mm cannons, the Indian Navy has crushed the Somalian pirate fleet. In 2019 they sunk and/or disabled 38 pirate boats and 3 "mother ships" the small boats use as a base out to sea. Now when an Indian corvette is in the area, the Somalian pirates beat a hasty retreat.

I had not heard that about the Russian and Chicom troops. Interesting.

I did see that the UK FINALLY figured they did not want Huawei having anything to do with their 5G network. I'd like to think they figured it out themselves because I really admire what they did during WW2 (they pretty much stood alone for a long time), but I think it might have been our sanctions that compelled them.

The situation in Hong Kong alone should highlight how far you can trust China to live up to their side of a deal. Covid19 should show you how concerned they are about being a good "global" citizen. And if they do this kind of stuff now, imagine what they'd do if they ever did become our equal economically or militarily.

I suspect the "hate America" crowd will soon take up a defense of the poor Chinese. They already think it's a good idea to force draconian and expensive regulations on evil American businesses that make it impossible for them to compete globally...and call it "free trade" and "efficiency of the markets" when the jobs move to less restrictive shores and destroy the American middle class. Biden has already promised it in the form of a corporate tax hike and regulations on energy, making a chill run up China's leg!

    Re: China

I left out South Korea as a member of the new anti-China alliance, mentioned in post #250. And, just learned that The Philippines have joined the alliance, a mutual protection, defense, and joint operational agreement whereby the members agree to work (fight) together. The Philippines don't bring a lot to table in terms of assets. Their standing army is about 300,000 soldiers, they have 18 heavy battle tanks and another 530 armored vehicles. In aircraft, land-based, they do have 20 US built modern fighters, F-15s enhanced, and 100 attack helicopters. In naval assets they have 13 frigates and corvettes, all armed with modern ship to ship missiles and anti-aircraft missiles. One seaplane tender, and one diesel-fueled coastal submarine meant only for defense. What they do have is one of the best commando unit(s) in the world. Using US built C-130 transports and/or small patrol boats, these commandos will go on some of the toughest missions. They could be used to attack and take out Chicom radar stations on some of the islands, for instance.

Perhaps most importantly, given its geographical location, an allied Philippines would be a welcoming home base for US and Australian assets/units operating nearby. Always nice to have a friendly port one can depend on.
