    The GOP

Could sum it up in one word: circus

The Goppers have never been able to organize a Bar-B-Cue, let alone run a political party. They managed to rumble, bumble, stumble through the recent mid-terms; got lucky to take the House. And now...no words.

At least the dims stab you in the chest while they laugh at you.

The GOPs get you in the back and laugh twice as hard.

I see where Mitch is traveling with Biden in Kentucky and lauding the virtues of the pork KY is going to get from the 1.7 TRILLION garbage bill that was just passed. If they want a real reason the GOP almost went down in flames in the midterms, they need to look no further than that!

    Re: The GOP

I am hardly a swamper. Anyone who thinks so has not been reading this board or is willfully ignorant.

The point is the enemy is Biden and the demwits, not other Republicans. I agree with just about every issue the rogue 20 are pressing. But holding the House hostage is not the best way to get change. McCarthy has met with them privately and has made some concessions. But as Newt Gingrich rightly points out, this can't be a hostage situation where you give in to every demand or that will just encourage future hostage-taking. One of these 20...they can pick a candidate...should run for Speaker. Make his case to the whole GOP caucus and agree to abide by the rules of the House and engage in the selection process. If he is able to garner enough votes i.e. get to the 218, great! If not they should acknowledge defeat and then vote with everyone else to move on.

I may have not heard correctly, as I was still sleepy, but this morning on MSNBC's World Wide Exchange I think I heard them say the Dems have pulled a fast one as the House, while Pelosi/Dems were still in control last month, handed over "power of the purse" to the Senate, rendering the GOP House rather powerless in matters of the budget. I will not be surprised if this is true. Having lost the House for the next two years and holding the Senate, the Dems...who never waiver from playing politics and always stick together...have seized total control of Congress. They have their goofy, mindless puppet in the WH to sign bills into law, and effectively don't need the House.

No, I do not know if this is true, or if true...i.e. the Dems are trying this tactic...if it is Constitutional. But regardless, never underestimate the Dems from doing what they have to to push their agenda. And never underestimate the GOP from sucking their thumbs and allowing the Dems to get away with it.

Remember, the Dems have pulled stunts like this in the past. Of course, it has come back to bite them too. The Dems changed the rules to suit them in judge appointments, assuming Krooked Killary was going to win, and bam! Trump used those same new Senate rules to rush his nominees through, including THREE SC nominees...thankfully. So! if the Dem House has handed over power to the Senate, and IF the GOP can retake the Senate in 2024...well, well.

    Re: The GOP

Mike Pence pulls sneaky "fast one." Have to hand it to him and his campaign managers, it's very "dem-like." So, kudos to him.

Between Christmas and New Year's, during a period when most people are distracted, "someone" filed the official notice of Mike Pence to seek to run for POTUS in 2024. The Pence team claims it was a prank, a hoax, and the filing was not authorized by Pence or his campaign manager. They disavow knowledge of it, beforehand, and claim no participation in the filing. But, it is official! It is in and only a formal filing of withdrawing from the race can undo it. Well, some pundits think Pence did indeed authorize it and now is playing "sneaky games" hoping to ambush other GOP hopefuls in the primaries. He can suddenly jump in the race at any time now, without alerting his rivals.

Except, as one pundit points out, tricks aside, Pence stands no chance of winning the GOP nomination, no matter what tricks he pulls.

GOP is not even controlled opposition, it is just opposition.

Dems grift off the governemnt. GOP grifts off their own alleged base.

The tragedy is not that the GOP is dying, because it deserves it. It's that there's nothing to replace it with.

It's like we did the Vulcan mind meld! I agree entirely.

The only real difference between the GOP and the DEMs these days is their rhetoric. And that is why the "alleged base" of the GOP is shrinking.

Donalds is a fireball and I like him. It is obvious that McCarthy will not get to 218. Find someone in our new majority that can. If there isn’t anyone, we are screwed anyway.

    Re: The GOP

The GOP needs to do a private caucus and hash this out behind closed doors. This public display of ineptitude is just embarrassing for the GOP, Republicans in general, conservatives and any decent American (not libtards), and needs to stop. Fuss and fight behind closed doors, arrive at a consensus for someone, then return to the Chamber and make a public vote.

Are we better off for 2 years if a speaker is never seated?

Edit: if the choice is McCarthy or vacant?

    Re: The GOP

Now word is some Dems might agree to vote for McCarthy to get him to 218...but at what price? What concessions will such a Speaker have to make to get such a cross-over vote? If it happens and the agenda stays VERY leftist, then the 20 Repubs will be at fault, and none of them will get any good committee appointments either. Who loses? America loses and average, decent Americans lose.

What’s different? McCarthy is a democrat on the wrong side of the aisle anyway.

Well, he's better than the senate leader on the repub side. I wouldn't call him a democrat, but I do think he's a slime ball.

I am OK with what is happening, and hope they take it behind closed doors like 80 said.
