For those of you that like to level the charge of “hypocrisy”, it applies here.

When he was chief executive of the Dollar General chain, Perdue led the chain store’s aggressive expansion into China. And while working at Sara Lee, he used Hong Kong as a base to build an Asian operation from the ground up. If you don’t think he was dealing with CCP to accomplish these objectives, I have news for you.

Good grief! Stop it. I have told you many times before no one here, except lil johnny and indesu, fall for your crap. We know better.

For the record there is absolutely ZERO relationship between what Perdue did and what that commie bastard Ossoff did, and does. There have been many American companies seeking to do business in China...legitimately. What Ossoff did (does) has nothing to do with legit business.

    Re: China

From one of GL’s fav. sources.

‘Growing body of evidence’ shows COVID-19 leaked from Chinese lab: US official

U.S. National Security Adviser Matthew Pottinger is doubling down on the theory that COVID-19 leaked from a Chinese government-run lab in Wuhan.

Pottinger, a staunch critic of Beijing, allegedly made the claim in a recent Zoom meeting with British officials.

“There is a growing body of evidence that the lab is likely the most credible source of the virus,” Pottinger reportedly said, according to the Daily Mail.

A Chinese virologist who said she did some of the earliest research on COVID-19 has publicly claimed COVID-19 was man-made, and that the Chinese government covered up its dangers.

The Trump appointee pushed the theory as the European Union made a new investment deal with China last week over protests from Pottinger and hesitance from the incoming Biden administration.

Pottinger, one of the first U.S. officials to raise alarms inside White House walls about the origins of the virus back in January 2020, has reportedly suspected since the early days of the outbreak that the coronavirus originated in a Chinese lab.

He ordered U.S. intelligence agencies to search for evidence that it had, the New York Times reported in April.

A Chinese virologist who said she did some of the earliest research on COVID-19 has publicly claimed COVID-19 was man-made, and that the Chinese government covered up its dangers. Western medical experts have discredited the theory.

The World Health Organization has been investigating the source of the virus since the first case was made public in January 2020. Patient Zero has not been found.

Pottinger suggested in the recent call with British officials that the WHO probe is a ruse.

“MPs around the world have a moral role to play in exposing the WHO investigation as a Potemkin exercise,” Pottinger told the parliamentarians, referring to fake villages created in Crimea in the 18th Century to convince the visiting Russian Empress Catherine the Great that the region was in good health.

“Even establishment figures in Beijing have openly dismissed the wet market story,” Pottinger allegedly said, referring to another theory that the virus was transmitted from animals to humans inside a wildlife market in Wuhan where the first cluster of cases emerged.

    Re: China

The Chicoms grow bold. The commies have ordered their Coast Guard to fire on and sink any vessels that enter their CLAIMED territorial waters, and to immediately destroy any structures belonging to other nations on islands they claim...but that are in international disputes. The country most affected directly is Japan. If the Chicoms make good on these threats it could lead to war.

The US, and other nations, like Germany recently, has sailed navy ships through these CLAIMED waters. At the moment, there are no US Navy ships in the immediate vicinity of those waters...well, they are a little more than a day's sail away. It will be interesting to see if anyone tests the Chicoms....calls their bluff. I have an inkling no one will. The US probably would have, under Trump, or another nation might have knowing the US had their back. But with quid pro quo sleepy creepy Joe at the helm, the US is now little more than a bloated whale gently floating on the waves.

Japan? They are being directly challenged. They have large fishing fleets that routinely fish those "disputed" waters. And Japan has a research station and an advanced military radar and listening post on one of the "disputed" islands. I am sure the Japs have contacted their allies, namely the US, and also Australia, and perhaps even India, and are seeking support for some response to this provocation.

When they called the US, a squeaky voice on the phone said, "Who is this? Japan, you say? What do you want? Oh...President Biden...well he's taking a nap, cuddled up with his pacifier and comfy blanket...he can't be disturbed. Can you call back on Monday? Maybe someone will be here that can help."

The world will greatly miss Trump in the coming months and years. He kept the peace and without any wars.

In waning hours of the Trump Administration, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo – decorated military officer, former congressman, exceptional Secretary of State – leveled what may be the strongest, most widely supported, enduring charge against Communist China: Deliberate genocide.

Beyond China’s overt and covert attacks on Western values and international security, abusing rule of law, manipulating public opinion, economic data, currency, and multilateral trade regimes, hatching and spreading the deadly COVID-19 virus, Pompeo laid out the case for China’s unconscionable genocide against religious minorities, most egregiously millions of minority Muslims in Western China.

Notably, Muslims are not the only religion systematically, grotesquely, officially persecuted for their faith. Christians, Buddhists, Taoists, and other minorities are mercilessly persecuted by the Communist Government, which to now has been wholly unaccountable to world opinion.

As Pompeo affirmed, a wide swath of evidence from victims, relatives, journalists, international human rights groups, and incontrovertible technical data show 11 million Uighur Muslims have been targeted, one million forced into concentration camps for communist “deprogramming” or “reeducation.”

At the direction of China’s Communist government – the same one that bankrolled Biden family members – Chinese Muslims today suffer interminable physical imprisonment, physical abuse, forced abortions, forced sterilization, and unapologetic denial of rights found in our Bill of Rights, from free speech, worship, assembly, travel, and peaceful protest, to self-defense, confrontation of accusers, access to a fair trial, and freedom from cruel and unusual punishment.

With Muslims, Christians have been placed in fear, harassed, imprisoned, churches burned, theology changed, and personally martyred for unwillingness to deny their faith. Not surprisingly, when a 2015 Gallup poll asked Chinese citizens their views, 90 percent averred atheism. Fear, persecution, imprisonment, brain washing, and death are powerful incentives for denying faith.

What Pompeo had done, however, is bigger than meets the eye. By accusing China of genocide, a label that will likely be repeated by US allies, examined, and confirmed by non-partisan international human rights groups in time, he has brought China within reach of the “Genocide Convention” of 1948 (“Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide”).

This is a serious development, with downstream legal effects for China – no matter the Biden Administration’s affection, connection, or personal dependence on China.

The Genocide Convention, at Article II, makes clear that “genocide” is “any of the following acts to destroy, in whole or in part… a religious group” by “killing,” “causing serious bodily or mental harm,” “inflicting … conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction,” “imposing measures intended to prevent births,” or “forcibly transferring children of that group to another group.” China has done each of the above, most numerously to Muslims, but consistently to all faiths.

To be fair, the Chicoms have been doing this all along. I've posted about incidents. But they had been reconnaissance aircraft mostly, and just 2 planes. This was bombers and fighters and a larger sortie. I think the Chicoms are trying to provoke an incident hoping the Taiwanese shoot down some of their planes giving them an excuse to start a war.

The US has sent the carrier group, the USS Teddy Roosevelt, and it's cruiser and destroyer escorts, into the South China Sea. Let's see if the Chicom coast guard fires on this fleet.

    Re: China

The Chicoms, predictably, are crying foul about the presence of the TR carrier task force. Too bad. Before leaving office Pompeo was active in the region. The US signed a new cooperative defense agreement with the Maldives, and sold them two frigates and two search planes that will patrol the Indian Ocean in the vicinity of their islands. The Maldives have pledged to cooperate in any anti-Chicom endeavor in conjunction with the US and the "quads." Most likely their contribution will be friendly ports and airfields for said allies in the event of war with China.

Taiwan unveiled a new radar system that can detect Chicom military aircraft and ships when they first depart their bases, and can track them in the region.

BTW, the Chicoms have the most powerful radars in the world. They are "over the horizon" capable. No other country has such radar...not that others couldn't, it's just that it is not necessary. And, as I posted last year, the US Navy has a plan to actually use that radar against the Chicoms.

China issues a very pointed warning to Taiwan, "Declare independence and that means war!" To which Taiwan's President Ing-wen replied, "We are already an independent nation." Hah!

The Biden administration, via a Pentagon spokesman, plans to maintain Trump's policies toward the Taiwan-China matter, pledging unwavering support for Taiwan. At least, that's what has been put out there as the official position. I hope so.

    Re: China

The US Air Force is reallocating assets, moving a good portion of their squadrons away from Anderson AF Base (Guam) to other airfields, including two new ones built in conjunction with the Japanese. Like on Tinian. If you know your WWII history, Tinian was the site of a brutal battle. The reason is the Chicoms have built a family of mid-range missiles that can target Guam, so it is wise not to have so much of our air power in one place. Of course this is the benefit of aircraft carriers since they don't stay in one place making them much harder to target.

This was all started under Trump's administration but so far it appears Biden is not doing anything to halt it. Which is good.

BEIJING — China is set to overtake the United States as the world’s largest economy a few years earlier than anticipated due to the coronavirus pandemic, analysts said.

The U.S. reported last week that gross domestic product in 2020 contracted by 2.3% to $20.93 trillion in current-dollar terms, based on a preliminary government estimate.

In contrast, China said its GDP expanded by 2.3% last year to 101.6 trillion yuan. That’s about $14.7 trillion, based on an average exchange rate of 6.9 yuan per U.S. dollar, according to Wind Information data.
