Not really related to this story, but I was in the Gulf of Tonkin off the North VietNam coast during the mining of Haiphong Harbor in 1972. After the mining, we were tasked with alerting incoming merchant ships via signal flags of the danger in the harbor. We met up with a North Korean ship headed there and warned them. They didn't particularly like it, so they pointed their 3" gun directly at us. We, in turn, shifted our 5" 54 caliber gun, our 50mm machine guns and a couple of missile systems towards them. They high-tailed it to within the 12 mile territorial waters of Communist China. We couldn't pursue them, so we went hunting elsewhere.
