Chinese government researchers isolated more than 2,000 animal viruses, including deadly bat coronaviruses, and carried out scientific work on them just three miles from a wild animal market identified as the epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Several Chinese state media outlets in recent months touted the virus research and lionized in particular a key researcher in Wuhan, Tian Junhua, as a leader in bat virus work.
The coronavirus strain now infecting hundreds of thousands of people globally mutated from bats believed to have infected animals and people at a wild animal market in Wuhan. The exact origin of the virus, however, remains a mystery.

Actually, that isn’t an update. We have known that for a while. There was a few days where they started counting positive cases without symptoms and then they abandoned that metric a few days later. That was the sudden spike in the China case count.

Speaking of China...
I got an email from a professor at Shenzhen University in Guangdong Province, that is right close to Hong Kong. He remembered me from the early 1990's when I was traveling there on business. He is now the Director of the School of Management, when back then he was a young assistant professor working on behalf of the provincial government brokering business partnerships. Anyway in his email he said he remembered me because of my "American sense of humor and smiling every day." Now, you see, it pays off to be a goofball sometimes! His point to contact me is the university hospital has extra supplies of PPEs and he wants to ship them to America as a donation to help. He asked if I could provide him a shipping address...
I have passed this request on, up the chain, just in case, to the Natchitoches Hospital's CEO. I don't think there would be any problem with accepting the donations. But I will allow the hospital to notify the state, and maybe FEMA, and handle this thru proper channels.
Just an interesting tidbit to brighten your day!
BTW, the comment about the smiles...when I was in Russia, on business, our translator and guide would come by in a van to get us from the hotel every morning. One day he was particularly grumpy, so I said to him, smile!! life is good! He replied, the first thing you Americans put on in the morning is your smiles. So...smile!

I guess you believe everything except the part about Biden accusing Trump of "hysterical xenophobia" (along with a lot of hand wringing by other news outlets as well as the WHO) for putting a travel ban on China.
If he disregarded it, why did he put the travel bans on China, Iran and eventually all of Europe and the UK? Trump is not the guy I want out there determining what medical supplies to buy or telling you what treatments to receive. If you wish to get your medical advice from Trump, you love him more than anyone on here.
On the other hand, he was trying to keep the virus out of our country. Looking at the sick map, I'd say this is something nobody succeeded in doing. But Trump.....wahhhh wahhhhh wahhhh.
A China travel ban was an easy call for Trump. He is a one trick pony.
Trump has been called xenophobic since he was a candidate for POTUS.
Why was Trump downplaying the coronavirus for all of February and claiming that we had the coronavirus under control? Why did he do nothing to prepare us for the coronavirus after imposing travel bans? Keeping the virus out of our country was always a pipe dream. It was always coming here. He bought time, then squandered it.
If Trump can’t handle setting priorities of executive agencies and lighting a fire under them to prepare them for such a serious threat, he really shouldn’t be the POTUS.
