Young with a leadoff hit and again Burroughs doesn’t bunt him over. Subsequently Wells flies out so we’re stuck on first with one out. Next batter grounds into a double play. Failing to engineer your opportunities means your putting your future faint in the hands of your opponent. This mentality loses more often than not. It’s Burroughs’ style.
I'm not saying why Burroughs does it, but bunting (statistically) is one of the worst strategies in baseball.
tie game in b9 after a bases loaded walk!
9th inning - HBP & 3 walks!
I guess our twitter person fell asleep after the HBP
Here is the most recent expected runs tables from NCAA that I know of.
http://www.boydsworld.com/data/ert.html
Note the difference in expected runs between a runner on 1st with no outs and a runner on 2nd with one out. Same for runner on 2nd with 0 or 1 out vs a runner on 3rd with 1 or 2 outs. In every instance, your expected runs scored in an inning and the percentage chance you have of scoring even one run in the inning drops by giving up an out to advance a runner one base. Edit: Your chance of scoring at least one run increases by 3% by bunting a runner from 2nd to 3rd with no outs in the more recent data, but it is flat in the prior data.
The first table represents the average runs scored after the given situation occurred.
2005-2008
Outs 0 1 2 Empty 0.72 0.38 0.14 1st 1.19 0.71 0.30 2nd 1.52 0.91 0.42 1st and 2nd 1.94 1.21 0.58 3rd 1.76 1.18 0.48 1st and 3rd 2.17 1.43 0.64 2nd and 3rd 2.39 1.61 0.68 Loaded 2.74 1.85 0.91 2011-2012

Tied @ 4. Bases loaded with a 3-0 count. Now count loaded. 2 outs.
Extra innings
Pretty much as expected, Tech with bases loaded, a chance to win and we can’t make it happen, such agony :/
Would’ve been nice if Young hit a grounder between 1st and 2nd.
B10 - Wells reaches on a single, bringing up Mallard
