Never contenders....pretenders all along, and it showed when the rubber met the road. A typical Tech athletic team.

I would love to hear Burroughs’ behind closed door summary of the season to McClelland, not the coach speak version of things that we get. That’s assuming our AD actually cares enough to have his coaches debrief him on the year and explain what’s the planning for next season.

Next year we will be back to Slim-to-no levels again. No pitching and the same hitting. Maybe if we get a new stadium in 2020, we can get new leadership across the board too. Truth be told, if T Mac is the one doing the hiring, we will be status quo or worse off than we are now.

It’s going to be interesting to see how the recruiting goes for a coach who can’t win in the post season, whose players and thus team doesn’t improve over the years of their stay and for a program that doesn’t have a home facility. Not to be the grim reaper but depending on how poorly this scenario plays out Tech could be set back for several years in trying to have a competitive team. Even not including the destruction of the ballpark Burroughs’ teams aren’t coached well enough to win at a consistently high level. This year’s senior rich team didn’t play any better than last year. That’s saying a lot and it’s not good. A whole year of a repeated shortcoming... Ouch! Talk about a waste.

He is about to load up on more non productive jucos. I heard today that he cut one roster RS freshman (STUPID to have a RS on the roster) He also "uncommitted" to another local high school senior. This is becoming a habit now.

In his defense, I think juggling the baseball roster has to be one of the most difficult challenges in college sports. It's an impossible and unfair task. You only get 11.7 scholarships with a quarter minimum to divide up between 25 guys on a 35-man roster. The signing period starts in the middle of November before the season starts and continues through the first of August. You don't know who will want to transfer out or leave the program for whatever reason or who will require Tommy John surgery and not be able to play the following season. Then the draft isn't until the middle of June. You don't know who will get drafted, how high they will go, or if they will sign. Then there's the domino effect that happens over the summer as draftees can wait until right before school starts in the middle of August to make their decision on college or going pro. Then you're usually stuck with some signees who end up requiring TJS after you sign them. You only have two paid assistant coaches able to help manage the messy roster situation, and you are obviously expected to win. All the while the national media can only rant and rave about transfer restrictions and how football and MBB players who receive full scholarships and cost of attendance stipends should be paid salaries.

None of the above has happened to our HC over the past two years. His rosters have been less than 35 the past two years and not due to late injuries. He puts players on the roster, but he has no intention of playing them. Of course this locks those players into attending Tech for two extra quarters. Bottom line is he is untruthful to the players and their parents about their future at Tech. We've already discussed the fact that he waits until Fall Quarter begins to make his final cuts which is unfair to the players as well. I'm not against Juco players, but our HC has not show he knows how to judge potential in Juco guys outside of Mallard and Wells.

Everyone pretty well knows the problems with coaching college ball. Being a good team is nice. It beats what we had with Wade Simoneaux. But this was the year we've been "building" for and our stated goal was a championship and Regionals. And we don't win 35 games and we lose two straight games in the tournament.

I'm sick of being good but not good enough. I'm tired of there being good explanations for why we fall short. I'm concerned because the trend under Burroughs is not good, we graduate 12 and with that we're losing starters and arms.

Next year is probably going to be a tough year. "Well Dave, it's a rebuilding year and...."

Obviously being a top 60 offensive team is better than what we were for 12 years, but we have to consider that we were a top 40/50 team when he took over and practically had all players returning. We won't be top 60 next year due to pitching, but it doesn't look like our hitting will help either.

USM & FAU continue to take care of business. Not tanking down the stretch but playing to their potential. IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK?
Meanwhile LB makes more excuses blaming lack of talent - the same talent he recruited. Our AD describes our program as a regional level program.
Positive thinking & confession doesnt make a Honda a Porsche.

The only coach on campus worth keeping is the softball coach. I am serious. Well, at least as far as the top 5 sports are concerned....

As has been mentioned ‘talent’ or the lack of it can refer to coaches too. You’re right that on the grand scheme of things, Tech’s coaching is below par. No surprise though because the AD is below par. You can only build the program you’re capable of envisioning, the decision makers have a squinted eye perspective.

You could listen to both of the coaches on the radio in the days following the tragedy of the tornado and you knew then whose team was going to be ok and respond in a good way and the one whose team was on shaky ground...

The difference in the public persona of the body language and attitude was telling

Next year will be tough. Like not making the tournament tough. I used to set around and wonder why we can’t seem to build more support for this program, but years like this remind me of why. LB inherited a loaded roster, and he has taken that program and put it in a nosedive. How does a coach with a 1-6 CUSA tournament record keep his job?
