    Re: Socialism

Typical of polls...at their best they are merely a snapshot of that moment's "feeling" of the pollee. Not a true word, I made it up...

    Pollster - a person conducting a poll
    Pollee - a person answering a poll

Most polls do not rise to the level of anything close to "scientific." Even their calculated "margin of error" is a joke, based on the same limited sample size. The Quinnipiac Poll, considered one of the better ones, "interviews 1,000 randomly selected voters every two weeks." That's what they state on their website. Interviews? On the phone...asking??? What leading questions?

"Please choose one of the following: Strongly Agree, Agree, or Somewhat Agree to this question -

"Any of the Democrat Candidates would make a better POTUS than Trump?"

Oh, ah, what are my choices again?

Asking leading questions, phrasing questions such that the respondent feels compelled to answer a certain way. Pollsters using inflection in their voices, either consciously or unconsciously, to steer the "pollee" toward a response. And EVEN IF you give polls, like Quinnipiac, a pass on their methodology and sampling process and pool, they are still no more than a snapshot based on recent news/events in the pollee's sphere of influence.

The only, ahem, "scientific" measure one can reasonably point to is a trend. If Candidate XYZ consistently polls a certain way, across various polls, various time periods, in the aftermath of major news' events, etc... then it is that trend that points to a reasonable predictor of that candidate's standing. It's like I pointed out about Sanders, and his polling 4th or 5th, poll after poll. His average poll number is about 14%. And it is consistent. That is the pertinent point, not the results of any one poll.

Then there are the regional (state) polls. Harris will poll high in California, and on the west coast. Polls rooted out there are slanted toward her, even if the pollsters try not to be skewed.

    Re: Socialism

One correction, but it is an important point...

The Quinnipiac Poll interviews "registered" voters. Makes sense since that's the database they draw from, i.e. where contact information can be found. And, unless you're an illegal alien recruited by the Dems, or dead, or both! one has to be registered to actually vote. However, limiting the sampling to "registered" voters eliminates the important component of "likely" voters. It's one thing to be registered, another to care enough to actually go vote. We see the stats election after election, usually less than 60% of registered voters actually vote. In fact, POTUS elections usually score highest and that average over the last few cycles has been 59.7%.*

*there's also a small percentage variance comparing results against "eligible" voters. But that is less than 1/10 of 1%.

    Re: Socialism

    Socialist Idiots!

Bernie Sanders finally learns the cost of socialism – And now he's paying the price

Bernie Sanders to pay staffers $15 an hour but has to cut their hours to do it

Would the 'fight for 15' only lead to less work and more unemployment? The Stock Swoosh's Melissa Armo weighs in.

It is a testament to Sen. Bernie Sanders’s political impotence that he managed to perdure nearly four decades in office before experiencing the costly consequences of his own inchoate ideology. But Bernie’s blissful ignorance faded in May when the campaign staffers who peddle his proposal for a $15 minimum wage asked the socialist millionaireto put his money where his mouth is.
“Given our campaign’s commitment to fighting for a living wage of at least $15.00 an hour, we believe it is only fair that the campaign would carry through this commitment to its own field team,” wrote the staffers to campaign manager Faiz Shakir. The Sanders campaign leadership disagreed and dismissed the staffers’ demands for three months, until last week when one disgruntled field worker leaked documents and details to the Washington Post in a last-ditch effort to shame the Sanders camp into paying staffers their fair share.

Democracy might die in darkness, but the Sanders campaign thrives in it, and the Senator himself rebuked his staff for taking their complaints to the press. “It does bother me that people are going outside of the process and going to the media,” he complained. "That is really not acceptable. It is really not what labor negotiations are about, and it's improper.” Staffers might ask Sanders to practice what he preaches in private, but how dare they expose his hypocrisy to reporters?
The contract negotiations stalled because Sanders identified the central problem his policies pose: some jobs simply aren’t worth $15 per hour. Field organizers constitute the lowest-ranking staffers on any presidential campaign.
The job typically attracts activists in their late teens and early 20s, eager not for mere meager wages but for the networking, prestige, and practical experience associated with political campaigns. Many of a campaign’s most valuable members choose to forego pay altogether and join as volunteers, placing them officially just one rung below field organizers on the campaign hierarchy. They volunteer because association with a campaign can provide value in itself.
The writer H.L. Mencken described democracy as “the theory that the common people know what they want and deserve to get it good and hard.” Cowed by exposure in the media, Sanders finally relented and agreed to give his staffers what they want.

But nothing comes without a price, and as Sanders announced the new minimum wage for field organizers, he simultaneously cut to the total number of hours per week they can work. Not only will the organizers not earn more money, but they’ll also lose valuable face time with the candidate and his more senior staffers.
Workers in Seattle have learned the same hard lesson over the past few years as new minimum wage laws led to a surge in automation and cuts to low-wage employees’ hours. So much for Bernie’s workers’ paradise.

The Sanders campaign staffers have learned the hard way that arbitrary minimum wage hikes, like so many of Bernie’s fanciful plans, are often illusory. As the economist, Thomas Sowell observed, “The real minimum wage is always zero.” No worker is entitled to a job, and “making it illegal to pay less than a given amount does not make a worker’s productivity worth that amount.”
Still, not all is lost for Bernie’s hapless staffers. Though they offer little value in the productive economy, even bootless ideologues can aspire to riches. If they imitate their leader, the Sanders staffers might just make a mint over a 40-year career peddling economic fantasies to suckers.

First off, buckle up, this is a rather long one. Yeah yeah, TWSS.

I have family currently working with state department in Belgium. Belgium is not a socialist country, but they have had a infusion of socialist ideas. My aunt said that many in their neighborhood installed solar panels when the government issued huge tax incentives if they put energy back in the grid instead of taking power out. Now they have found they get charged because the power is transferred back into the grid via public utility equipment. Also, they have a requirement that all new homes have a catch basin installed to gather rain runoff. This water is used to flush toilets, water lawns, and wash cars. However, citizens have found that they are charged a fee for adding water to the public sewage system that was not delivered to them by said system.

This is what happens when socialist policies creep in.
