    Reparations

    The house democrats are discussing reparations for descendents of slaves today. Will this include players in the NBA, NFL, and MLB as well as many others that have done very well living in this country? I wonder how the descendents of those are doing that were left in Africa compared to the ones that are living here. Can you imagine all the corrupt dealings that would go on trying to identify these people?

    Re: Reparations

    As a friend of mine recently commented, "I will both have to pay and also be eligible for reparations." Her ancestors were both slaves and owners. Manumitted, about 1790-1800, they became large land owners and holders of slaves.

    What about the poor ole average non-slave holding white farmer who lost everything to illegal seizures during the reign of terror under General Sheridan and the swarm of vermin, known as "carpetbaggers"?

    What about we poor white folks of today whose ancestors didn't even come to this country until the 1880's and after?

    BESIDES! these Dems are just desperately trying to hold on to the black vote. They will promise anything and everything and then not deliver on any of it.

    Re: Reparations

    I would fear one of 2 outcomes and probably both. Reparations will only bolster a sense of entitlement. Reparations will only make non blacks feel resentment and a sense that now blacks are indebted to them. Back to slavery in a way.

    The is the catch all "give free stuff" the socialists will offer. They are all in agreement and it works for all democrats. I believe that they are overlooking a large percentage of blacks not asking for more free stuff. The days of getting 99% of the back vote are gone. Hopefully that percentage is way down.

    Liberal losers.

    I guess every country and clan from the inception of the world should pay reparations to all colors and people groups that were slaves at one time or another.

    African slavery lives on, 400 years after transatlantic trade began...

    F
    rom the article;

    Africa has the highest prevalence of slavery, with more than seven victims for every 1,000 people, according to a 2017 report by human rights group Walk Free Foundation and the International Labour Office. The report defines slavery as “situations of exploitation that a person cannot refuse or leave because of threats, violence, coercion, deception, and/or abuse of power.”

    Re: Reparations

    Yep! I have posted before about present-day slavery, and yes, Africa continues to be in the worst aspects of it. The UN lumps various types together and gets a 40 million number, and I don't doubt that. But, Amnesty International narrows the definition of "slavery" to what we think of historically, people forcibly seized at gunpoint, chained up, and taken away to be sold into forced labor. And they estimate close to 2 million people are currently being held in such bondage. The exact same thing the world saw from the 1600's to the late 1800's and that today still upsets folks. In case you did not know, what history refers to as "African slavery" ended officially in 1885, mostly in Brazil, the last nation to abolish it.

    In the US, up until December 6, 1865 with the passing of the 13th Amendment, slavery was legal and the last slaves freed were in New Jersey and Delaware. Yep, good ole Yankee states had slaves until the amendment was ratified. Slavery there was not interrupted because those two states fought on the side of Lincoln's Yankees.

    Still, at its peak, in the South, oh my!, 4 million people were held in slavery. Now, today, based on AI's numbers fully half that number, 2 million, are suffering the same fate. Where's the outrage? Why aren't Al Sharpton and Beto O'Rourke, and Kamala Harris and all the rest in Libya protesting!? That's ground zero for the present-day African slavery. There is NO DIFFERENCE between what is going on today and what went on during the Atlantic slave trade of the 1700's. None.
