I looked up a bunch of football schedules and found a big-name team that had an unfilled spot on the same day we were going to play NLU (I think it was a team from the ACC but I can't remember exactly who anymore). Then a friend and I devised a two-pronged attack that we launched on April Fools Day. One of us posted on the Dawgbytes message board, saying there was a rumor we were going to drop NLU to get a big payday game against a top team. Then the other posted on the NLU board, saying they have a cousin working in the La. Tech athletics department and had been told Tech was dropping NLU to score a big paycheck. The post went on to say a few choice words about how rotten Tech was for using NLU like this.
What happened? All heck broke loose on the NLU board!
With the same information being posted on both boards, NLU fans assumed it was true. Message after message on the NLU board spewed disgust, hatred, and vitriol for Tech. It went on for several hours as the NLU fans proceeded to go nuclear. The Indians' hatred for Tech probably reached an all-time high that day.
Finally, cooler heads prevailed on the NLU board. A few were able to point out a few things to get them to calm down, the most prevalent being that several Tech fans on Dawgbytes had correctly pointed out it was April Fools Day and were laughing their tails off as they followed the meltdown on the NLU board.
