Is it 2011 all over again?

This season reminds me a lot of 2011 with the grand exception that, this year, we've won our close games.

    In 2011:
    • Lost the season opener to USM in a monsoon
    • Needed OT to beat UCA
    • Lost by 1 to Houston at Home
    • Lost in OT to Miss St
    • Got whooped at home by Hawaii
We were a pitiful 1-4 team and our fans were almost as depressed as the fans of this years 5-1 team...

After that poor start though, things started to fall into place. We took a QB that nobody wanted and a few JUCO WRs and didn't lose again until the Poinsettia Bowl. If the 2019 dawgs can reproduce the passion they played with yesterday, we can win out. I've still got UNT, Marshall, and UAB circled on my schedule as our biggest obstacles to winning the conference. I want to host the CG as a top 25 team and we're poised to do that. We control our own destiny.

I was thinking the same thing. This game reminded me of the Nevada game when Hunter Lee rallied the troops and the team just refused to lose.

Lee and Patton both. Remember Patton held him inbounds on the pass play allowing the clock to run.

I still believe our running game was underused in 2011 and especially in San Diego in the 2nd half.

The best part of that year was winning the conference! Winning another is long overdue!

I made a similar reference to the 2011 Bulldog season last week on this board. That team went on a 7-game win streak to win the WAC conference title. This team is already on a 6-game win streak and should have at least two more wins under its belt before traveling to Marshall.

This might be our first DOUBLE DIGIT win team (10+ wins) since 1984, and the first ever at the FBS level.

It will be Skip’s first double digit season too... as a FBS head coach. I thought it would be first of his career, but he had a 10 win season at Connecticut in his last year as a FCS coach. This would be his second in 20 years.

Speaking of 2011, Dykes has SMU at No. 16. Mostly outscoring the other teams.

Yep, and the 'stangs are fun to watch too!

They have three tough tests left, especially at Memphis and at Navy. They will be severely tested and could lose both. Then they host a pretty good Tulane team (5-2) to end the season. I see them at 10-2 at worse, probably 11-1.
