Just shows how much the Indy Bowl needs us, but can't admit it.

The game was on at Saltgrass Steakhouse in Irving, TX. I had family in town for the holidays and it was already on when we got there. Had to take a picture for posterity.

That evening after the game, my family and I went to eat at Maddox Steakhouse in Brigham City (in the heart of Utah State country). I was wearing a Tech shirt and had about half a dozen people stop me to talk about the game.

Travel Tip: If you are ever in northern Utah or southern Idaho, Maddox Steakhouse is a must-do. It is not too far from Promontory Point.

It shows you how much exposure Amik missed by not playing. The good news is, he wasn't missed and we did okay without him. Two and a half million viewers is as a lot.

Here's a run down of LA Tech's bowl viewership the last 6 years. Please note that the Bulldogs have played in front of almost 11 million TV viewers in its' last 6 bowl games (actual number is 10.871 million TV viewers for 6 bowl games).

LA Tech vs Illinois drew 2.30 million viewers for the Heart of Dallas Bowl back on Dec 26th, 2014. The rating was 1.5.

LA Tech vs Ark St in 2015 (Dec 19th) New Orleans Bowl drew 1.45M viewers (much more than this year's game between Appy St and UAB, which only drew 963K) and a .09 rating.

LA Tech vs Navy in 2016 (Dec 23rd) drew 2.341M viewers for the Armed Forces Bowl game in Ft Worth.

LA Tech vs SMU in 2017 (Dec 20th) drew 1.250M viewers for the Frisco Bowl, which was a 57% increase over the previous year.

LA Tech vs Hawaii in 2018 (Dec 22nd) drew 1.16 million viewers for the Hawaii Bowl, which had an unusual 10:30 PM EST start time.

LA Tech vs Miami in 2019 (Dec 26th) drew 2.37 million viewers, which was a 31% increase over the previous year

Perk of playing a P5. Miami’s national brand definitely didn’t hurt.

I agree that Miami's brand helps. But, LA Tech has been over the 2.3M viewers mark for a bowl game 3 times in the last 6 years.

If you compare it to a similar matchup (2017 Indy Bowl: FSU vs. USM) - that game was 2.205 million viewers.

The question is what would the ratings be if we played a sunbelt team in the Indy Bowl. App. State was the reason most folks watched the NO Bowl.

When we play a big school/national brand, there are a million more viewers watching our bowl games vs. playing a "little" school. 2.34 million viewers vs. 1.29 million viewers.

I thought about Amik's not playing and reasons given - for hopefully a 5th round draft choice

Then I watched Lynn Bowen for UK play on New Year's eve and how he drove his stock through the roof and probably secured himself a late first round pick or early 2nd round pick by leaving it all on the field in the Wildcats bowl game - he will not be drafted as a qb but that kid can play and is a playmaker

No question. Which is exactly why LA Tech should never allow itself to be suckered into playing an Appy St team most lay people have never heard of instead of playing a "Miami" or some other big national brand school. It's just not worth it. Not if you have options. When it comes to bowl games, always go for the biggest stage (Indy Bowl's $2.2M payout vs NO Bowl's 825K payout) against the biggest brands.
