Talked to the UT athletic director last night. They are very focused on winning the first game against us. The last two seasons they opened with losses to a really mediocre Maryland team. This year if they beat us, they get to host ESPN game day the 2nd week against LSU. He and Skip are apparently buddies. He said all this before he knew I was a Tech grad. Really strong AD.

No idea where the author got his numbers from.

Maybe take 5 seconds to google a stat that doesn't sound right before getting ticked off?
It's from S&P+ which is what the SB Nation blogs tend to use (I'm not sure if that will continue with Bill Connelly at ESPN now).

It's more of an efficiency rating than the traditional yards/game stat. He factors things like rate of play and opponent and I think to some degree even down and distance.

Which one of those dollars catches passes, or slips a tackle?

It certainly can help "buy" those that do.

My point is that it's football. Not budgetball or even attendanceball.

Our theme this year should be "every game is a bowl game". If so, we run the table..

Unfortunately Skippy doesn't see it that way until "Bowl" season

I just hope we can compete. Even if we get our ass handed to us, if we compete we should be happy we have Skip as our HC and that he plays golf near EllAye Tech sometimes.

Yes, all the extras that come with that money are very attractive to 18 year old athletes. While it might not directly buy a player, maybe at some places they do, all those extras sway those impressionable kids. If nothing else it can buy some extra stick em!

Our Goal(s) to win our conference and end up as a Top 25 team which is not far fetched unless your are HCSH or the EllAye Tech AD.

Texas Goal is to win a NC using almost all the money in the world. How's that working out?

They have 1 NC in the last 13 seasons, 14 is you count this coming season.

We haven’t finished in the top 25 and only have 1 conference championship in that same time span. Neither fan base is happy with the current state of their teams, but I would take that 1 NC.

We should be in the CUSA game I would say at last once every class cycle, so once or twice every four years, with us winning one of those if not more. In that train of thought we were there in 14 and 16. Had a real chance to win it in 14, neither have been hosted by us. At this point Skip should have been improving on that cycle, but it seems to be regressing.

I guess I should note that we beat a team who was in the faux top 25 a few weeks before we beat them in a bowl game.

    A win is a win

5 more bowls..... 5 more bowls....

I am with you though, conference championships should be our goal every year, some top 25’s to draw in a few more really quality recruits and I would love to be in the AAC with most of the teams in its current line up, but more than winning, that would require 30-40 million more budget wise. Maybe UT could float us a loan.

I"m not in the "win a conference championship" camp. Winning that extremely low attendance game would not increase attendance the following year one bit. Finishing in the top 25 however would if our AD didn't find a way to screw it up.
