    scrimmage notables

    For what it's worth...

Henderson looks much better at RB. I noticed he explodes through the LOS and has good power/exceleration. If he can block, I could see him getting significant carries.

J'Mar is much more spry. He seems to be looking to run more. That said, timing and accuracy are still issues at times. Mix that with some drops and it looks like last year to me. I think he'll be better in terms of consistency but I can't predict how much.

Malik Stanley is a player. Look for him to targeted early and often. Big body, good hands, physical kid. I like him.

Trey Baldwin is a baller. Very fast and hits with conviction.

The DB's are very good. Snead is going to excel at safety. Robertson is better. Sam is solid. Roberson has had a great camp.

I like JJ and Barnett at safety. Both have excellent range and anticipate well.

I couldn't really tell to much in terms of OL and DL. We are thin at DL (especially nose) and Wallace has to stay healthy. Davenport is back and he will contribute.

Diaco will have these guys schemed well.

I expect Hardy will be productive and Graham will make a splash. Stanley is the dark horse though. Very good get.

I like Allen at qb if J'mar stumbles. He plays with rhythm. Good vision and aggressive. He can sling it too.

I think we'll be able to move the ball on the ground against Texas. It will be interesting to see if our defense can disrupt them enough to make them uncomfortable. I see use forcing some turnovers. I'm not sure how much we'll score though.
    Have you considered those Dogs?

I'm excited about Henderson. He's trimmed up and muscled. I hope Holtz does not Boston Scott him.

Great comment...still baffles me how Skip was the only one in America who saw something that we didn't or either he didn't see what we did

I like him too. He's more explosive than I thought. Tucker is the shiftiest, and Dancy is the fastest. I think all 3 will get an opportunity to make a case for more carries. If J'mar gets more designed runs, we could have a formidable ground game.

Are you referring to Boston Scott, or J'Mar Smith?

    Thanks for the update.

Now.....how about our RED ZONE offense? Are Skippy and the boys practicing it, or not?

It wasn't a focal point in Saturday's scrimmage. I do think Henderson and Stanley looked like red zone weapons we did not use/have last year. I'll also say Diaco is more aggressive than Baker in terms of defensive pressure. You can tell Skip considers him more of a peer like Diaz. He's not over his shoulder. In fact, he's not really messing with the defense at all.

Great news about Diaco. I hope we stay aggressive once the season starts. I will say having a good secondary makes it easier to be more aggressive.

    Thanks for the great analysis.

That's great news about Diaco and the Tech DEFENSE. Now, if we can just send Todd Fitch out to buy pizza's and run a few errands during the 2nd half of each game, we may have the makings of a championship offense as well.

You're welcome comrade. Diaco likes to stunt and bring safeties. Lots of disguises with him. He seems to think his corners can press cover too. Those guys are up on the line.

Hmm......I like the way this sounds. Be careful, or you're gonna get me excited about the 2019 season.

You coming to Austin? I don't think we'll leave the stadium with our heads down. We'll play them as close as we played LSU. They might score a few more but they won't run us out of the stadium.

I was going to ask about this. My general impression is that Diaco's defensive philosophy has tended to be more of the bend don't break strain as opposed to the Diaz/Baker bring the pressure variety, but I'll admit I'm not that familiar with his history. Just something I read or heard somewhere about the hire - that there will be an adjustment in approach.

But this is good to hear. I like it when we're aggressive. And I think we probably have the talent level relative to most of our opponents to play that way.
