If it lightening within 100 miles, they clear the field for an hour...okay, I understand "better safe than sorry." So...we KNOW players have died from heat stroke in pre-season practice, it tragically happens just about every year. Additionally, college football players are young, strong, in good physical shape... but what about the average band member, other folks? Saturday's forecast is now at 104F for a high temp. Heat index will top 115F and on the field it'll be 120F.
This will be the first home opener I have missed in a very long time. I was there for the Miss Valley State game some 20 years ago, under similar circumstances, that was a 6:00 start, as I recall, it was absolutely miserable! I swore then "never again." (although I have attended some games since that had me asking myself "Are you nuts?")
I hope and pray nothing bad happens.
