    Re: A Simple Question

If it lightening within 100 miles, they clear the field for an hour...okay, I understand "better safe than sorry." So...we KNOW players have died from heat stroke in pre-season practice, it tragically happens just about every year. Additionally, college football players are young, strong, in good physical shape... but what about the average band member, other folks? Saturday's forecast is now at 104F for a high temp. Heat index will top 115F and on the field it'll be 120F.

This will be the first home opener I have missed in a very long time. I was there for the Miss Valley State game some 20 years ago, under similar circumstances, that was a 6:00 start, as I recall, it was absolutely miserable! I swore then "never again." (although I have attended some games since that had me asking myself "Are you nuts?")

I hope and pray nothing bad happens.

We opened against Nevada I believe in early 2000's in similar conditions. They were taking cheerleaders out on stretchers. I wasn't planning on making this one for various reasons but now I'm really glad I'm not going.

It's going to be brutal -

I dropped my season tickets this year from 11 to 6

I may not be able to find takers for all 6 of these this Saturday

Even in the best conditions in early September at 2:30 in the afternoon it's bad

It is going to be dangerous on that turf Saturday - my guess turf temp at kick with be +150...

    Somewhere on Tech's campus:

holtz: gonna be a hot one. Sure we can't play at squire creek? They have a lake.
tmac: we have a water hose around somewhere. We'll just spray the field before the game and between quarters.
    guice: brilliant! Raise!

    Probably.

    Re: A Simple Question

I'm sure before Saturday there will be some announcement from Tech about urging those in attendance to make sure they "hydrate", and there will probably be something said about taking extra precautions in the heat and who knows, they may even establish some extra places to buy drinks or open the TAC at which you can stay in until game time. Meanwhile, in the suites and pressbox, someone will make sure the thermostat is set at 72 degrees and there is plenty of ice for the drinks. Can't run out of ice.

    Re: A Simple Question

Mrs TD had a problem at the last afternoon early season home game that got so hot. That was her last game like that! She'll come & tailgate but she won't go in the stadium and may end up going home early.

I'll go to this game, but it may be my last August/early September afternoon game. I hope we're coming out on the broadcast money to make it worthwhile because from this fan's perspective I think it's kind of nuts.

I was at the Baylor game at 6. I thought we would die of a heat stroke! I am not looking forward to any afternoon games! I can't be there this week, and my husband and son are questionable due to the extreme heat. I have given my tickets away, but can't imagine they will actually come and sit in that heat.

At least the stadium at Texas had places for cooling off in shade and wet towels.

...but it is a historic game. Seriously, this game is not as big as the guy who only 97.7 is making constant mention of, Buddy Davis. T shirts? Caps?

I was gonna say head, neck, and 1 for each pant leg. My wife may not go for that though.
