As we celebrate another GLORIOUS Tech victory...

Is it time to contemplate a CUSA championship?

Judging by the way the rest of the conference plays... yikes we are all doing poorly.

Has another C-USA team gotten beaten up by a SWAC team?

Offense is a joke and will be the rest of this year...if you don't have expecattions, then you won't be let down.

Re: As we celebrate another GLORIOUS Tech victory...

The offense was fine (not great) until we started trying to bleed the clock in our first possession of the second half.

All our skill players play better up tempo.

The commentators referred to it as our “red offense”. What’s sad about that is that it indicates that we talk about this and that it’s intentional. We have all observed how terribly we play with a lead. It feels somehow worse to know we’ve discussed this intentional momentum killing with those outside the program.

Did I hear correctly that we only attempted 6 passes in the 2nd half????

Also, I thought the 2 fourth down plays were called incorrectly. We should have taken the points on the 1st drive of 2nd half and been up 23-0 (virtually 4 scores). In the 4th quarter, when we tried to draw them offsides, we should have actually gone for it.

I'll say any FBS team that stuggles against a SWAC team is in a mess.

We are supposed to have our best team in years. UAB was expected to suck.

We need to be up 30 before starting bleeding clock strategy. I don’t mind it, theoretically it is the correct call with yesterday’s brutal weather. Try to end the game quick. In practice, our offense needed to start quick, attack, and score twice more. Because Grambling wasn’t going to give up just because we were going to bleed clock. The second half was very poor game management.

This team is S-L-O-W!! The defense especially. I am not impressed with any facets of our game.

Did you see how much better we played with 4 defensive lineman? Our prevent, drop 8 defense only prevents us from being effective.

I agree wholeheartedly. I think Skip is a slightly above average coach, Sunday thru Friday, but he has the worst feel for the game I have ever seen. If his initial plans derail, he is clueless to stop the bleeding.

We have arguably the best pass rusher in the conference in Willie Baker. I watched every play of the game, his name was never mentioned until the last play where we sacked the QB. The 3-4 defense is a JOKE!!! After 2 games, it sucks. For the love of the game, everyone but skippy sees that our offense is garbage. Of course, everyone but Skippy saw that Boston Scott was better than Craft. We are a joke...we barely beat Grambling....we are a joke, the AD is a joke

Re: As we celebrate another GLORIOUS Tech victory...

Tech’s football troubles aren’t complicated. In no particular order...

#1 J’Mar isn’t a football savvy QB. He can’t read what’s likely to happen with the defense so Holtz has him running the simplest offense imaginable. It’s basically one read then throw it away. His read option runs are too slow.

#2 J’Mar/Holtz have agreed that J’Mar plays it safe, no risk for reward if there’s a risk of turnover. No risk of injury either.

#3 Holtz coaches and motivates his team down. He never sets out to ‘beat’ an opponent. It’s more about just winning the game. A bare win is more sportsman like than a butt kicking.

#4 Holtz doesn’t dare let his coaches coach their way. He doesn’t trust anyone to risk anything. He much prefers hoping the other team will make enough mistakes to lose.

#5 Holtz won’t hire a coach to rival his authority or style. He wants down trending coaches that he can control very easily.

#6 Holtz is not a good judge of game day talent and performances. When he evaluates his players incorrectly, he won’t make a change.

#7 Holtz is atrocious at game management and perceiving momentum moments in the game. He pretty much always gets it wrong.

#8 Holtz is an uninspired coach! Whether it’s the opposition coach or their players or the refs, Holtz doesn’t get excited about anything including being cheated. This lack of emotion dampens his players’ performance because they aren’t inspired to over achieve.

Even if I and others don't completely agree with every one of your points, it's safe to say there is some truth to each and every point you made! There are team members, staff members, and others within our university reading this and nodding their heads in agreement with much of what you posted!

That said, I don't completely agree with #5. Diaz was his own coach while he was here. I suspect Diaco will be, as well.

Your most accurate point is #7. We have blown 4th quarter leads in the Holtz era in games against Kansas State, Arkansas, and South Carolina when we've gone into a shell. And it hasn't only been about not throwing the football. It's more like an attitude and history in those situations. Our team and staff knows we're going to play it safe, and our opponents know we're going to play it safe. In those games both sides have acted accordingly. You can go back and watch the 4th quarter of each of those games. Look at the body language of the players. It's stunning.
