Amazing that a city the size of Ruston could do this.

It has cost the city a lot and will cost a lot going forward. I read somewhere that the complex helped bring in over $6million in revenue this year. With the completion of softball and tennis complex and hopefully football and soccer before much longer, let’s hope we can keep that up. That money was spread over our entire local economy. The complex will have to generate that kind of money on its own if we ever want it paid off.

    Re: Ruston's sports complex

The sports complex being built in Natchitoches is an albatross. Stupid voters (not me, I voted against it) approved a measure to take $11 million from the surplus infrastructure emergency fund and allocate it to the new park. Now the complex's cost is approaching $15 million, and it is still no where near being completed. The city council, led by the goofy, clueless mayor, has floated two bond issues, totaling $3 million, and have a $1 million charged to the city's credit card(s). By their own projections, as hopeful as they are, it will take 93 years to "pay back" the $15 million to city taxpayers.

Now, our water bills are huge to support necessary maintenance/replacement of decaying water pipes. And don't even get me started on our crumbling streets...

    For Ruston's sake....taxpayers especially...I hope they don't have a moron in charge.

anyone that was against this facility and is still against this new sports complex doesn't understand travel baseball and softball and the money it brings in. think the next phase to be complete by 2022 includes an indoor facility

Is the ROI analysis available for public inspection?

    Re: Ruston's sports complex

How much revenue did the complex bring in on it’s own? Can it pay the maintenance costs of the facility? Was there a noticeable difference in sale tax revenues as a result of the complex?

info from the impact that the Dixie world series had along with some props from in industry publication:

    https://www.rustonlincoln.com/blog/74/Dixie-Youth-World-Series-Honored-as-a-2019-Champion-of-Economic-Impact

    I
had heard that there is a 70 team softball tourney scheduled for the complex early 2020. I would bet there wouldn't be a whole lot of weekends in the spring and summer that there wouldn't be something going on at the complex.

    Re: Ruston's sports complex

Sterlington built a complex, hyping all the revenue it would realize. But apparently it hasn't worked out too well for them.

As I mentioned, using the complex supporters' own numbers it will take 93 years to pay taxpayers back the $15 million price tag (Natchitoches). It's not about GROSS revenue, it's the NET, plus opportunity costs, sunk costs, and all those pesky economic factors that get in the way of "if we build it, they will come."
