He did fine. Don’t crucify him over a freak play.
Im most disappointed in the over thrown TD. Otherwise decent night. 290 in the air, 63 on the ground. Just no TDs to show for it.
If our offense can get this going all year, we will be in good shape.
Sorry, you guys are right, it was off of an FIU player, but still a guy who has been coached up and has also been receptive to the coaching throws that ball where some dude drinking a Sierra Mist in the stands has the only opportunity to catch it. I hate it for J’Mar, but we are so accustomed to watching QB’s who win games for us, not just get lucky enough to not lose it for us. He may be a great guy away from the field, but by all appearances he is still not a good QB or teammate. Just calling it like I see if from my vantage point on the south 40 west side.
My son said some FIU players tried causing trouble during the alma mater?
Shouldve been a first down given for targeting on that drive. I saw a weaker one than that called last (?) weekend in the Boise game.
But we won. Won’t get too mad. Though the office should hold these guys accountable. Both teams got away with a good bit of stuff tonight.
On a different note, I had lost track of D'Antne Demery after UGA pulled his scholarship offer after a domestic violence incidence in Athens after its Spring game a few years ago when Demery was a 4-star signee. He played high school football in the town I lived in at the time (Brunswick, GA). Getting ejected for throwing a punch was not a good look for him. I'm sure FIU had some pretty serious conversations with him about his violent temper before signing him. After seeing how Jaylon Ferguson got jerked around last year by the NFL, the punch could haunt him. https://www.dawgnation.com/football/...lout-continues
I’m usually a pessimist. I was at the Joe tonight. I’m proud of our team. Playcalling worked, J’mar was at his best tonight. Keep this going forward and we will be fine. When we went to 5 DBs we got crucial stops. I’m a fan of the 4-2-5 for our roster. A win is a win and we wore down an opponent on the ground. Big part was because we used the passing game as a glorified running game. 12 of Jmar’s completions were behind the line. And he threw for 290. I’m excited again.
The FIU QB is no joke. That guy was accurate - especially in the 2nd half. Our ability to control the clock and run the ball in the second half worked for the first time in a long time. I think FIU will go on a winning streak now, but it may be too late starting out 0-2 in the conference. We looked really good at times and mediocre at other times. VERY happy to see J'Mar running it some. That will come in handy this season, if he will do that more. Not totally disappointed in our offense. J'Mar is not accurate, but is not the worst either. Would just love to see some more exciting football from us. We are just bland. A win is a win, though! Thank God we wore their defense down in the second half, because their passing offense caught fire.
Pilots say "any landing you can walk away from, is a good landing."
Tech fans say "any game you can walk away from, with a win, is a good game."
I have no expectations of "greatness" or something special happening this year. In fact, my expectation is 7-5, followed by a bowl win, to finish 8-5. I had the FIU game down as one of our 7 wins. That happened...expectation met.
I have, however, elevated J'Mar Smith up one notch from a #4 Fair (mediocre) QB, to a #3 Good QB. But, just barely.
#1 Great QB (elite, championship caliber)
#2 Very Good QB
#3 Good QB
#4 Fair QB
#5 Poor QB
#6 Lousy (horrible!!!)
Smith has just barely rolled up to a #3. But he better watch it! He can't make all the throws a QB needs to make. Missing a wide-open Hardy on that post pattern is the latest example.
I'm liking Henderson out there. Good job!
J’Mar is not going to get any better than he is right now. He’s just not an accurate passer and with all the practices he’s had so far, I don’t see any more helping. He is who he is. He doesn’t have a touch pass. Everything he throws is on a line. With a lesser receiving group his stats would be down. Tech’s receivers make him better. It’s not the other way around.
Things are better when J’Mar runs. He is capable. For whatever reason sometimes I think he’s afraid to. That could be Holtz playing scared like he does 70% of the time.
It was a good win but far from a complete team and coaching effort.
Was very happy to see Justin Henderson doing well last night.
