    Re: 9/28 @Rice Game

I don't think it being a home game for Rice is a big advantage. We rolled them in the past in their house. Also, it's such a huge stadium and smallish attendance, noise will not be a factor.

Army is good, but Rice is good stopping the run. If J'Mar has an average to good day throwing the ball, we win this.

Wake Forest I think they are a solid team.

Baylor, they haven't played anyone. Stats are padded against weaker teams.

Comparing who lost the worst against Texas isn't a good indicator.

Rice is #128 in total offense. They are dead last in scoring offense. They have played some top defenses. We will be their lowest ranked total defensive team, but we're #4 in redzone defense!
Tech is #40 in total offense. We moved up to #80 scoring offense.

Yeah, I think there is some pretty solid data that will back this up.

I wish I understood this. I guess everyone does. It's like we take being at home for granted or something and then we have to scramble to save a win.

The Grambling game was definitely that way. Wish we could have pulled that off against NSU a few years ago, WKU last year and USM & North Texas in 2017.

Rice is gonna run, run, run the football. Our new DC better come up with something besides that silly 3-man front he's so in love with.

    Rice Stat Notables

    Passing | Stewart – 36/61 (59.0 percent), 414 yards passing, 3 TD, 0 INT
    Rushing | Walter – 56 carries, 181 yards (3.2 yards per carry), 1 TD
    Receiving | Rozner – 15 receptions, 250 yards (16.7 yards per reception)
    Tackles | Alldredge – 29, Montero/Chamberlain – 26
    Pass Breakups/Interceptions | Alldredge/Smith/Thornton tied with 2 PBU

    Louisiana Tech Stat Notables

    Passing | Smith – 97/143 (67.8), 1108 yards passing, 5 TD, 2 INT
    Rushing | Henderson – 35 carries, 277 yards (7.9 yards per carry), 4 TD
    Receiving | Hebert – 15 receptions, 218 yards (14.5 yards per reception), 2 TD
    Tackles | Jackson – 30, Scott – 28
    Pass Breakups/Interceptions | Robertson – 7 PBU, 1 INT

They will have 8 in the box and make Smith beat them deep. Can he? He’s going to have his opportunities on Saturday to do it. I want to say if we get ahead early, the game is in the bag, but every time Holtz gets an early lead he goes into a turtle shell. We should win this game, but I wouldn’t be shocked if we don’t. I think it’s less than a 10 point game late.

We have a veteran team with a 7 year HC and a 5th year QB. Vegas only has us at 10 and our fans are nervous. Fans deserve to actually enjoy a game instead of staying puckered up for 3 to 4 hours.

The 3 teams Tech has beaten have a combined record of 2-9. We “escaped” with a 6 point win against Grambling.

There is nothing in the YTD results of either team that indicates to me that Tech has a large competitive advantage. I hope I’m wrong.

I wasn't analyzing Tech, we know what we have and are full aware of our body of work. Regarding Bulldog Tom's "Rice is horrible", looking at Rice's stats and breakdown of their opponents, I tend to agree they are not that good. You used it's a "home" game for Rice as a factor which I've shown that we have blown them out in Houston the last two visits. You compared losses to Texas which I don't think matters. We had similar lopsided losses. If we were to compare, we at least had 413 yds of offense vs Rice 266 yds against the Longhorns. They did great against Army, but it's a dream opponent for Rice. They are good at stopping the run and Army doesn't throw the ball much. As far as Baylor, they have padded stats vs SFA and UTSA. We'll see what the Bears are made of when they get into conf play.

Overall in 4 games, Rice can't score. They are dead last in scoring offense. Our redzone defense is #4 in the nation. You have to score some points to win. I think the edge goes to Tech.

People are under estimating Rice the opponent they have faced are combined 13-2. They are nowhere as bad as board is making them or their record shows. The are going to come out in 23 and 32 sets which we will probably not see the rest of year. Will be happy to get out with a 7-10 point win, the are going to give teams of the rest of their schedule problems and they may very well have a lot to say about who wins the West.

And Tech has padded their stats against teams that are 2-9.

Rice being at home was pretty irrelevant to me. I just don’t see a big difference in the abilities of the two teams. Time will tell.
