We're seeing Skippy's name come up prominently for several SEC jobs this year (First Ark, now Ole Miss, etc..) It looks like Skippy wants out of Ruston because LA Tech fans are demanding more than just a bowl apearance each year. It certainly appears that he has brushed off his resume, and asked his agent to get more aggressive with potential suitors.
Skip is probably in an Ole Miss conference room right now pounding the table, and telling the Ole Miss leadership what a clean football program he runs at LA Tech, and how he has no problem putting program integrity before wins. After all, nothing exemplifies program righteousness and coaching integrity as much as a head coach willing to torpedo his own schools success by suspending prominent players the night before their biggest games of the season. And Skippy can now say he's done it TWICE (2014 before the CUSA Championship game, and this year before the Marshall and UAB games.)
Who knows? For schools looking to avoid future problems with the NCAA, this sales pitch probably carries some real austerity and gravitas.
I think it's more likely that we're hearing his name more because of our winning season(s).
And I wonder about the suspension thing. We will never know, but I suspect that wasn't Skip's call. And that it maybe isn't a call he was too happy with, despite what he said publicly. I've heard it implied that this is why you're hearing his name more often this year as well (although I still think it has more to do with the specific programs who have openings and the timing of our win streak and the body of work built in Ruston).
You should be sure of your facts before stating that Skip suspended those players.
Please clarify. The mere fact that you want me to "be sure of my facts" when the school has never bothered to even give us any facts is downright laughable, and leaves the whole sordid issue to interpretation.
What we do know is that Skip is their coach, and overseer, and that they did not play because they were suspended. Those are solid facts.
What would HogDawg have done if his players broke team rules?
He did what he was told to do. He didn’t instigate the 2 games.
Instigate? Agreed, Smith and the other three instigated this whole mess.
So Holtz would not have suspended them for "breaking team rules" if had not been instructed to do that? Reckon how those who had failed the early tests in September, but cleaned up and passed the November tests would have reacted? Maybe they should have just tried to keep it quiet and hope the NCAA didn't find out.
NCAA doesn’t require testing for Cannabis.
