    Biggest Regular Season Win?

I think so under Holtz. Western in Ruston was big, but this win does so many things...

-It gets a huge monkey off the back of our program (not Holtz)

-It it s win that most fans did not have marked as a win. Many fans had us at 4-3 or 5-2 at this point. 6-1 is huge!

-It gives us a legit shot at a Top 25 showing which should be one of our goals, but we've never really sniffed it under Holtz.

-It gives our fan base a breath of fresh air. Our fans know we can win 8 or 9 and a bowl game. We need more.

-It shows that Holtz is willing to make adjustments in the name of winning games...not just bowl games.

-Other than the Top 25 dream we have a realistic shot at actually hosting a conference championship. Traveling East again in not acceptable.

I agree with all of that.

But we have to back this up. This is how we should play almost every week. I understand a let down every now and then. We really should not lose another game. That is my expectation. No excuses!

No reason that we should not have 7 wins going into HC. We could very well be ranked after a HC win against UNT.

HC, and road games to Marshall and UAB will make or break us. Win all 3 means we host the championship game and will likely be ranked going in to that game. Lose any of the last 5 and it's just another year of unranked bowling.

That was such a fun game to be there for. I think it was an example of what Holtz can do when he has the time to prepare. We did not play the predictable game I thought we would. All in all, it was a great day to be a TECH fan!

76-31 win over Rice in 2014 was bigger, imo. That was an 8-win Rice team who beat us by 38 pts the year before... the game was for the West Division too. This one was big too though, but will soon be forgotten if they drop a couple of games. 1 game at a time.

I think it's the biggest win under Holtz for the reasons PawDawg listed. Of course, it won't matter much if we stumble later but, in terms of setting the table for the rest of the season, it's pivotal. This team could emerge as a Top 25 contender.

    Re: Biggest Regular Season Win?

2014 Rice was the first big win.
    2015 had some let downs.
2016 had WKU, but a let down in Hattiesburg. Navy was a big enough win.
2017 lacked. Just a bowl win.
2018 was better, nothing big. Bowl win.
2019 USM is pivotal, will go down that way. Just get past UAB/UNT.

I really think this could be a spring board game. You could tell the players wanted this game bad.

Yes, but this was Southern Miss. We knew we could beat Rice, wasn't sure we would ever beat the Buzzards!

Listening to the immediate post game comments by Holtz with Luke McCown, Holtz said that JMar was in defensive huddles on the sidelines and Amik was offensive huddles on the sidelines, encouraging each other.

I think three things emerged in this game:
    - this team has heart
    - Holtz will play agressively
    - this team is bonding deeper at the right time and is showing they have each others' backs.

    Re: Biggest Regular Season Win?

It's probably the biggest HOME regular season win for Holtz. We laid so many eggs, at home, in seasons past that it's good to see the Dawgs hold serve on the home turf. The last two, 2015 and 2017, vs. USM are foremost among those "egg layers."

As for road regular season wins, I think the W's at WKU, FAU and UNT in recent years were all huge wins. Not only because they were conference road wins, but because they reinvigorated the team when it was much needed.

But, as for this one, come on, man! We all know how important this W is. We exorcised a demon...we told "daddy" he's not welcomed in our house anymore...and...it's the frickin' Mustard Buzzards with a former Tech QB at the helm. Don't pretend you don't agree...any of you out there...how HUGE this win is for our collective psyche. I feel a whole lot lighter with that monkey off my back .

    Re: Biggest Regular Season Win?

Apart from winning, the game revealed what we could be on offense. The emergence of Malik Stanley, the big play potential of Hebert, the ruggedness of Henderson, the craftiness of Powell, and the new found touch of J'Mar hasn't really all come together but it's starting to. We were without our best receiver and it probably helped us in the sense that we could see how these other components can work together. I think our WR corps poses real problems for anybody. There's just too many weapons. I think this offense is about to explode.

All I know is we needed this one. BADLY.

Congratulations to the coaches and team for a great win. How many times have we "Tech'd" it when we get down a couple of scores? Seriously, I feel like I lost some weight...i didn't, but you know.
