    Technically ... yes.

Realistically ... let's wait to burn that bridge when we get to it.

    1. The team that does this usually starts a year or two before building their case with a few upsets and good records. They don’t struggle to beat bad teams.

    2. They start the year ranked 15-20 and have the chips fall their way.

I don’t think we make it even with one loss unless every other team competing for that spot drops the ball

Lots of currently unbeaten/one-loss teams ahead of us in the rankings. We would have to go 12-1, get help from Texas to climb in the polls, and get help with those teams getting knocked off in upsets.

    Possible? Yes
    Probable? No.

If there were little to no drop-off next year, and we repeated, It’d be more probable. But thats getting way ahead.

Looks like we've got a few teams that need to tumble for us to even have a chance. SMU (16) , Cinci (18), Appy State (21), and Boise (22) are all ahead of us in the polls. I forget the criteria to get into a NY6 bowl, but I'm pretty sure that you have to be the highest ranked team from a non-P5 conference.

With that said, if we win out, that would give Tech additional wins over UAB, Marshall, and likely WKU in the CUSA CG. It would be enough to get us ranked, but, if none of the schools listed above drop a game, we will not be passing them in the polls. Texas winning out and claiming the Big XII crown would also be a plus.

I'm pretty sure that we'll be bowling prior to Christmas. I'm going to enjoy this ride for the rest of the season. On to UTEP!

It all depends. If USM beats everybody but UAB and UAB is sniffing the top 25 when we beat them at their place...maybe. Would also be possible that the team we play in the CG is receiving votes when we play.

The main thing is whether or not SMU loses. Late losses ALWAYS hurt more than early losses, so we have the going for us.

Yes, in the CFP poll which does not start until Week 11, November 5th. Final rankings are Sunday December 8th.

This should be our goal every year and we should not be ashamed to discuss it here on the MESSAGE BOARD. If we are 12-1 we will be ranked. That's not at all likely if we lose in any of the last 5 weeks.

    Highest ranked champion in G5
    Current Division Leaders
    American: 18 Cincy, 16 SMU
    C-USA: WKU, Tech
    MAC - nevermind
    MWC - 22 Boise, SDSU
SBC - 21 App State, ULMLL

We'd need to win out - and SMU or Cincy falter in regular season and the the other falter in championship. Also, Boise & App State would need to fall.

All the teams listed except WKU/ULM are ranked ahead of us in Massey Composite rankings (which means nothing).

Highly unlikely. Our SOS is really weak.

It's determined by people CFP Committee. It's possible some of those teams can lose (I haven't looked at their remaining schedules). If we win out, and do so in a convincing manner, then that CFP Committee could rank us the highest, assuming there's chaos above us.

That has nothing to do with elephants.

It's the highest ranked G5 champion that makes it in. The CFP committee does the rankings. They might say they consider SOS, but in reality, they consider media hype and potential viewership far more.

I'll be happy if Tech beats the 3 Texas schools remaining on our schedule, and earns a split between the two tough road games at Marshall and at UAB. Oh sure, I want to win all 5 of the remaining games. But I'll still be very happy if Tech wins 4 of the remaining 5 games, and finishes the regular season with a 10-2 record, AND a birth in the CUSA Championship game. After the CUSA champ game and a great bowl win, Tech could still finish 12-2 overall, which would be phenomenal for our program.

Even in the years we lost the championships and the other 4 years we maxed out on CUSA bowl games. The next step up is the NYD G5 spot.

I'll take 12-2, including a CUSA title, and a 6th straight bowl win, but this time over a P5.
